To See or Not to See: Frequency

Frequency

If it’s not apparently clear, this season’s biggest trend is time travel. From NBC’s Timeless to Fox’s Making History, there’s no shortage of shows covering the concept. But, none will tug on your heartstrings like The CW’s Frequency.

Frequency is a chilling story about a father and daughter who are supernaturally reunited decades after his death. Based on the New Line film, Detective Raimy Sullivan lost her father at the age of seven and has always believed he was a disgrace to the force. But, everything changes when they’re reconnected via his vintage ham radio. Who knew two actors could create so much chemistry without being in the same shot. As they rebuild their relationship, they’ll change their timeline and face consequences for their actions.

While many networks have tried adapting films into television shows, few have succeeded. Thankfully, Frequency defies the norm. The creators take enough liberties altering the storyline that it’s intriguing and fresh. One of the most notable changes is the father-daughter relationship. This dynamic grounds the sci-fi thriller in reality and makes it a standout amongst the other shows I mentioned earlier. Plus, who doesn’t love a strong female lead? Peyton List is magnificent as our protagonist. And, she’s joined by an equally impressive ensemble that includes Riley Smith, Mekhi Phifer, and Daniel Bonjour.
