Man Crush Monday: Sam Claflin

Sam Claflin is about to take women’s hearts by storm. In the highly anticipated film adaptation of Jojo Moyes’s Me Before You, Claflin will be the prickly Will Traynor...and I advise you to get your tissues ready. It’s going to be a doozy.

We’ve been a fan of Sam Claflin for quite some time now. From Snow White and the Huntsman to The Riot Club to The Hunger Games, Claflin has been steadily working his way through many genres of film and television–and amassing fans along his journey. He’s one of our favorites because:

Let’s get this out of the way….he’s got a pretty darn pretty face that is definitely #crushworthy. I mean, what could be better than a wide smile and dimples?

He takes his roles very seriously. For Will Traynor, he lost 45 pounds before filming to really capture Will’s physicality (which he talks about in this lengthy and interesting AOL interview. Side note: a very wise piece of wisdom Sam imparts in that same interview is that “You should be your own hero.” *Praise hands*).

He leads a normal (and private) life. Unlike other actors of his level of fame, Sam focuses on his work. He does the interviews he needs to promote each piece of work and then goes quietly home to his family (he and his wife had a baby at the end of last year and only just recently announced what the gender was).

Finally, his Instagram promotion leading up to the release of Me Before You has been purely joyful to watch. The emotions behind filming that he shares with each post are genuine which only proves how humble and down-to-earth he is. It also makes his fans love him even more.

28/50 #tbt after a long day at work For a lot of the filming we were based out of Pinewood Studios, which meant I could go home most nights. And there’s nothing quite like a warm embrace from your loved ones to remind you why you work so hard, and fight so hard. Especially in my favourite piece of furniture. This is me having just got back home from a long, hard, emotional day of shooting one very tough scene (I cannot say, so as not to spoil anything). Some moments were definitely more difficult than others. As you can imagine going on Will’s journey was the ultimate rollercoaster.
