Our Favorite Returning Fall TV Shows

Even though this fall television season has been full of wonderful new shows, there are so many returning fall tv shows that we here at Pop Culturalist were incredibly excited to see again. From dramas to comedies, there is so much out there to watch and love.

We had a hard time narrowing it down. A couple of our runner-ups included Modern Family, Empire, and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. We prevailed, though, and picked our favorites:

American Horror Story, FX, Wednesday 10/9c

As far as American Horror Story, which is now in it’s sixth season, I have become accustomed to looking forward to this show, as it is perfect for the Halloween season. Ryan Murphy never ceases to amaze me with the stories and extremely unique characters that we get to learn so much about. -Anthony

black-ish, ABC, Wednesday 9:30/8:30c

With black-ish, this is a show that has great stories that touch on family and important issues that we can all learn from, while still crying tears due to the hilarious nature.  -Anthony

The Flash, CW, Tuesday 8/7c

What’s my favorite returning show? That’s an EASY one! It’s The Flash. I mean, who doesn’t love this speedster? The writing is terrific, the cast is stupendous, and the effects are unlike anything you’ve seen on TV. Yes, they’re that good. When we last saw Barry, he was altering the timeline again (when will he learn?). Since its hiatus, the show has been teasing a lot about the new season including Jesse Quick and Flashpoint. And, I’m happy to report, it’s lived up to all the hype. -Kevin

Jane the Virgin, CW, Monday 9/8c

This show has it all: comedy, drama, romance, mystery, and the feel-goods. Gina Rodriguez (she’s the best!) leads such a stellar cast, and the writers are brilliant. They kept us on the edge of our seat at the end of last season and started this one with an emotional roller coaster (Michael, Petra, and Xiomara all had big developments). Also *SPOILER ALERT (if you have not seen this show)* Jane the Virgin fans are totally ready for her inevitable de-flowering this season! -Taraneh

Madam Secretary, CBS, Sunday 9/8c

What can I say? I’m a sucker for political dramas. CBS’s hit show is in its third season and the drama is leaving me on the edge of my seat. If watching the real election unfold bums you out, watch this instead. Téa Leoni makes everything better, I promise. -Diane

Project Runway, Lifetime, Thursday 9/8c

This reality show about aspiring fashion designers is already in its 15th season (where did the time go?) but it still remains one of my favorite hours on TV. Watching the contestants as they toil to create a beautiful work of wearable art is as fascinating as ever (especially when they have “make it work” moments). The special guests seem to get younger and younger but Heidi, Nina, and Tim remain as kooky, judicious, and beloved (respectively) as ever. -Christine
