Younger S4E1: Unsynchronized Passion

Younger Season 4 premiere Peter Hermann Sutton Foster

Team Charles and Team Josh fans can rejoice: Younger is back, and there’s even juicier drama this season! We left off last season with Liza finally admitting to Kelsey that she’s been lying about her age. Oh, and Liza realized she did love Josh, but after all her lying, is that enough?

Quick recap:
First of all, no, Kelsey is not ok with Liza’s recent truth bomb. Since Kelsey has no apartment to live in (remember her author boyfriend decided she couldn’t stay with him because that would be “too fast”?), she takes all her suitcases from Maggie and Liza’s and heads out into the night to….well, that’s the mystery of the episode. In the meantime, Kelsey won’t talk to Liza about personal things; she’ll stay polite at work to keep Millennial going. In fact, Kelsey finagles getting Liza and herself on EW’s Hot 29 Under 29 List….complete with publicity pictures and interviews (Will Liza’s New Jersey house mom friends see these pictures?? Or, more importantly, her daughter?). Kelsey’s cold shoulder is upsetting to Liza. Lauren is finding her steady relationship with hot doc, Max, a little too steady and normal, and Diana, well, she doesn’t get enough moments in this opening episode, but hopefully there’s more to come (because our favorite one-liner whiz needs to have some time to shine).

Favorite moments:
-Kristin Chenoweth is a great guest star. As a crazy “tell your own truth” politico who wants Empirical to publish her book so she can get in a little fling with Charles. Charles’s squirming and avoidance of her are hilarious.

-Lauren is so ridiculous (in a good way, of course) that I literally laughed out loud and shook my head when she said, “Last night I sat on [Max’s] nocturnal erection while he was sleeping. In some cultures that would be considered rape.” Liza immediately follows with, “Yeah, in all cultures.”

-Charles and Liza are “victims of unsynchronized passion”. After last season’s kiss, I have a feeling this season will definitely have more Charles and Liza sexual tension moments. In fact, when Charles takes Liza to an Ernest Hemingway auction (surprise, it’s from his family holdings) and explains Hemingway and Marlene Deitrich were “victims of unsynchronized passion”, and Charles and Liza share a look….DEAD.

-The big reveal of where Kelsey is shaking up: WITH JOSH. You guys. I really hope they don’t end up hooking up or dating. I’m nervous. But also, what a good twist!
