Why You Need to Watch American Fable

American Fable

It’s no secret, we love a good indie flick here at Pop Culturalist. They’re daring, thought-provoking, and driven by storytelling. And one film that’s caught our eye is Anne Hamilton’s American Fable, set during the 1980s farm crisis, the film masterfully toes the line between fairytale and reality. And it’s magical. At the heart of the story is Gitty (Peyton Kennedy), an 11-year-old girl, who discovers her father (Kip Pardue) is hiding a kidnapped man in their silo. She’s forced to make a difficult decision: protect her family or save a man’s life. Intrigued? We thought so. But if you’re still on the fence, we’ve compiled four reasons why this film is a must-see:

A Strong Female Protagonist

Peyton Kennedy is an up-and-coming actress we need to pay attention to. Her performance is gripping, nuanced, and powerful. She brings all of Gitty’s strength and sensitivity to fruition. And more importantly, the character is one that young girls can relate and identify with. And is there anything better than that? We didn’t think so.

The Arrival of Anne Hamilton

It’s hard to believe in 2017 we’re still talking about the scarcity of female directors. Thankfully, American Fable sees the emergence of Anne Hamilton! She’s exactly the type of storyteller that Hollywood needs more of. She’s created a work that’ll have you on the edge of your seat and characters that you can’t help but feel invested in. Bravo, Anne Hamilton! Bravo.

The Talented Cast

The chemistry of this cast is undeniable and each plays an intricate role in the story being told. One of our standouts includes Gavin MacIntosh! If you think you know what he’s capable of, you’ll in for a pleasant surprise when you see American Fable!

An Homage to Fairy Tales—We Know and Love

Anne Hamilton does a brilliant job weaving together references to classic fairy tales we all know and love. This includes everything from Little Red Riding Hood to Beauty and the Beast. She does so in a subtle way that’s hard to miss.

If we haven’t sold you yet, check your pulse! American Fable is storytelling at its finest. The film is available on both Amazon and iTunes.
