He Said, She Said – American Idol Week 1

American Idol

What happens when you bring two American Idol fans together and let them discuss their feelings on the show’s farewell season? You get our new blog series, ‘He Said, She Said.’ Stephanie and Kevin are die-hard Idol loons, who have been watching the show ever since America’s first look at Kelly Clarkson sporting that awesome handmade jean tube top. They bonded over their love for a certain Idol winner, who will remain nameless, and a friendship was born. They clearly take the Idol series a bit too seriously, but definitely not themselves.

So, let’s do this! The final season is happening whether they want it to or not, no amount of protesting can stop it. On night one, they got to see auditions from Denver and Atlanta, and night two we stopped in Little Rock and San Francisco.

Initial thoughts:

SHE SAID:

I’m going to keep my thoughts about the first week of audition episodes of Idol’s farewell season brief because let’s be honest, Sylvia Lee Walker, the yodeller, wore out my nerves and I really couldn’t focus anymore after that.

HE SAID:

Was anyone else a bit bored with the first two episodes of American Idol? The producers of the show are focusing far too much on the judges, who quite possibly, are even more annoying than last year (Keith excluded). We’re not off to a great start but hey, at least, they brought back Kris Allen!

It may be a shameless plug if Kris tweets the message below but it isn’t when I do!

Go see this man live! That’s also what SHE SAID. Seriously, go buy tickets right now. We’ll wait…

Young Whippersnappers

SHE SAID:

Lee Jean, 15, from Bluffton, SC – Natural talent, adorable. If he can get his pitch in control, he could be a threat.

HE SAID:

I don’t remember him.

SHE SAID:

Olivia Rox, 16, Agoura Hills, CA – An old soul, with beautiful control.

HE SAID:

Uh…

SHE SAID:

Tristan McIntosh, 15, Nashville, TN – The only thing I wrote down in my notes was, “She’s not 15! I need to see a birth certificate!” Maybe I did write more, but my tears smeared the ink. I ugly cried throughout the whole thing.

HE SAID:

Tristan McIntosh is one of the only contestants I remember from the first two nights of American Idol. She’s got a great voice—far beyond her years. If the show went on for a few more seasons, she could definitely be a potential winner. Also, who didn’t love her back story? I know, as fans, we shouldn’t buy into their back story but that’s half the fun of watching American Idol. If you didn’t shed a tear, I’d be surprised. I just about lost it when her mom came out. She’s definitely one to keep your eye out on.

A few reasons a girl could win American Idol this season

SHE SAID:

Sonika Vaid, 20, Martha’s Vineyard, MA – Beautiful, beautiful voice. And those parents! I hope I get to enjoy watching them cry like babies in the live audience.

Brooke Sample, 28, Tuscon, AZ – She’s tired of going home smelling like ranch dressing and apologizes ALOT. Good news, her voice, and looks are enough to quit that waitressing job, for a little bit anyway.

Melanie Tierce, 21, Murrieta, CA – Crazy eyes, beautiful voice. Needs to work a little on her overall delivery, she looked a little “deer in the headlights.”

HE SAID:

As Jennifer Lopez elegantly said, “It’s time a girl won—f*ck the guys.” While I’m a huge fan of a WGWG (White Guy with Guitar), I’d love to see a girl win this season. And, I wouldn’t mind seeing Melanie Tierce win, she did have a guitar! She sang with so much heart and you could tell she was feeling the song. What’s even more charming is she doesn’t know how good she is.

Or is it the year for an R&B winner?

SHE SAID:

Daniel Farmer, 24, Memphis, TN – Pure R&B voice, the kind that I love. But I’m sure this is one contestant Kevin and I will fight about.

Trent Harmon, 24, Amory, MS – WTF happened?! I hate to say I judged a book my it’s cover, but I was not expecting that voice at all! Loved, loved, loved it! Stop with the angry faces and we may have a winner.

HE SAID:

Again… Who?

That’s it! Here’s to hoping this week of auditions provide us with more memorable contestants.
