Our Favorite TV Shows Returning Fall

It’s one of the best times of year: fall TV season! We’ve had a great summer binge-watching and, yes, spending time outside, but with the days getting shorter we’re all for heading indoors and chilling out on our couches. Let’s take a look at our favorite returning shows:

Outlander, season 3 premiered on September 10
Starz, Sundays at 8/7c
This season is already off to a good start with Jamie and Clare are hundreds of year (and continents) apart. Almost all of our main characters are struggling emotionally and dealing with the fallout’s of last season (all we can say: Poor, poor Frank who is just such a good man, but will never be able to outshine Jamie). The inevitable Jamie and Clare reunion has us in the throes of heady anticipation!

Broad City, season 4 premiered on September 20
Comedy Central, Wednesdays at 10:30/9:30c
Our favorite New York buddies are back! We finally got to see how Abbi and Ilana met in the premiere episode which was, in typical Broad City fashion, full of ridiculous highs and lows. We’re ready to have a dependable 25 minutes each week dedicated to making us laugh.

This is Us, season 2 premiere September 26
NBC, Tuesdays at 9/8c
Our tissue boxes (yes, boxes) are ready! A Pop Culturalist staff favorite last year, we’re all incredibly excited to re-join the Pearson clan. I think the question on everyone’s mind is: Will we finally find out how Jack died? Even if we don’t, we’re sure there’s going to be lots of heartwarming and heart-tugging scenes to enjoy.

The Flash, season 4 premiere October 10
The CW, Tuesdays at 8/7c
After a dark season 3, we’re hoping for a little lightness to return this season. Barry’s stuck in the speed force (probably not for very long?), and the team is closer than ever. We’re particularly ready for a whole new set of Cisco-isms to entertain us.

Riverdale, season 2 premiere October 11
The CW, Wednesdays at 8/7c
Everything about season 1 was fantastic: the mystery, the characters, the setting. Will Jughead and Betty survive his move to the Southside? Will Veronica’s dad wreck havoc on the town? Will Betty find the older brother her mom gave up for adoption years ago? So many questions, and we can’t wait for the answers.

The Shannara Chronicles, season 2 premiere October 11
Spike, Wednesdays at 10/9c
This fantasy TV show originally started on MTV, so note the network change! Seemingly, evil was defeated and Amberyle is dead. Now, what will Will and Erutrea do? What other evils lurk around the corner? We’re ready to see those lush landscapes again along with good special effects.

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, season 3 premiere October 13
The CW, Fridays at 8/7c
Rachel Bloom is crazy—that’s why this show is so good. Now that she’s hell-bent on getting revenge on Josh for leaving her at the alter, we’re almost clapping with glee at the sure-to-be delightful song and dances numbers about it.

Jane the Virgin, season 4 premiere October 13
The CW, Fridays at 9/8c
One of the most endearing characters on television is Jane Vilanouva. She had a rough year last year what with her recovery from Michael dying (damn the telenovella structure for insane plot twists!). We’re very intrigued to see how Tyler Posey, as her long-ago love interest Adam, gets incorporated into this new season.

Dirk Gently’s Holisitic Detective Agency, season 2 premiere October 14
BBC America, Saturdays at 9/8c
This wacky show ended on kind of a cliffhanger (Dirk is captured, Todd actually does get SYNESTHESIS, Jade is, and AMBER is on the road with the __). The time-bending story of last season will be hard to top, but if we learned anything from SDCC, we know that this season will be full of fantastic special effects and even wackier story lines.

Stranger Things, season 2 premiere October 27

Who didn’t binge watch season 1 of this addictive, inventive, 80s-throwback of a show? We’re super stoked to find out what has happened to our four favorite buddies (and Eleven!) and what new mystery adventure awaits them.
