Exclusive Interview: Pop Culturalist Chats with Meg Donnelly

Meg Donnelly

Meg Donnelly can do it all: act, dance, and sing. We’ve loved her in the hilarious TV show American Housewife and in the fantastic movie musical Zombies. So, now, we’re excited that we’re able to play her new single, “With U”, on repeat.

We chatted with her at the US Open’s Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day before she performed to hear all about her new music. Check it out:

PC: Tell us about your new single, “With U”.
Meg: I’m so glad it’s out because I actually wrote it when I was 15; the fact that it’s out now, four years later, is kind of crazy. And, then, Fetty Wap [collaborated with me because] one of my sound managers is his sound manager; that was my connection. But, also, Fetty Wap’s kids watched Zombies so Fetty did it for his kids more than anything. I think that’s so sweet.

PC: Speaking of Zombies, you’ve kept busy. You were a part of that, you’re on American Housewife, and you’ve created music. All are very time-intensive things. Where does your inspiration come from to do everything from acting to singing and dancing?
Meg: There’s inspiration everyday. I have a journal and write down things that come to my mind, or I see pictures and save them for inspiration. I’m constantly thinking.

And everyone I work with on all the projects I do are just so nice and welcoming. I think the inspiration comes from them.

PC: Being in a movie musical was on your bucket list before. Since you’ve done that now with Zombies, what’s next on your bucket list?
Meg: The biggest list is a Marvel movie. To be any Marvel comic character…I don’t even know what I would do! Marvel is such a huge part of my life; it would be insane.

PC: What are you excited for people to see in Zombies 2
Meg: I’m so excited for the big musical numbers. The musical numbers are bigger and better than the first one—even though the first one was great. The production is incredible, and I can’t wait for kids to see it.

PC: What has being asked to be a part of Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day meant to you?
Meg: It’s so incredible. It’s amazing, especially since it’s a day for the kids. I love it so much. I was here last year on the stage outside, and it was such an incredible opportunity. I remember being so nervous to perform there, and now, this year, it’s here [gestures to Arthur Ashe Stadium]. It’s so surreal how much it’s changed in a year, and I’m so grateful for it!
