Exclusive Interview: Logan Avidan Talks “Hot And Bothered” Single and Music Video

Singer-songwriter Logan Avidan is an emerging artist who is quickly establishing herself as one of the voices of her generation. Her trademark sound is a combination of pop, rock, and grunge, paired with empowering lyricism that has resonated with listeners around the world for its authenticity and relatability.

Her latest single, “Hot And Bothered”, is a scorching electro-pop classic that you will undoubtedly have on repeat.

Pop Culturalist was lucky enough to speak with Logan about her multifaceted career, “Hot and Bothered”, and her latest music video.

PC: How did you discover your passion for music?
Logan: Music has always been an escape for me. When I was a kid, I would listen to music on my iPod staring out the window. I would envision the future and fantasize about the things that I wanted. As I started writing my own music, it was more than just an escape. I had a place to put all my energy and emotions without judgment. Songwriting allows me to get down to the bottom of how I’m actually feeling and release any tension that’s building up inside.

PC: Who or what has had the biggest influence on your career?
Logan: My family and friends who believed in me and have always been by my side. They have been a huge influence. Also living in New York City since I was a teenager and the experiences that have come with that have only pushed me further along in my career and influenced the person who I’ve become.

PC: In addition to being a singer-songwriter, you’re also an actor and model. What have you learned from those industries and that aspect of your talent that you’ve been able to apply to your career in music and vice versa?
Logan: Both modeling and acting have given me the ability to let go and feel comfortable being exposed. When I perform live or when I’m writing that sense of vulnerability comes through and allows me to feel free and have fun.

PC: Tell us about “Hot And Bothered” and the inspiration behind the song.
Logan: “Hot And Bothered” has been the theme song of my summer! I started writing it on one of the hottest days in New York City. I was feeling agitated with everything and the heat wasn’t helping. I needed to write something that turned all my uncomfortable feelings into something that empowered me and made me feel sexy and confident. The song was so fun to make and just what I needed at the time. The lyrics were spitting out of me in seconds and finding the sound/production with John really pushed us outside of our comfort zone. We wanted fierce and edgy sonics, sugar coated with guitars that sound more like synths. We worked with as few elements as possible so anything there is intentional and in your face.

PC: You’re getting ready to drop your highly-anticipated album next year. If you had to pick one song off of Hot And Bothered that best encompasses who you are as an artist, which would it be and why?
Logan: All the songs on the album encompass a part of me but if I had to pick one that best does overall, it would be the track “Didn’t Mean 2 Shout”. Once I started writing that one, everything came together so fast and I think it really set the tone for the album. The track is all about releasing and saying things as they are even if it’s more “appropriate” to keep it to myself. In the process, I’ve learned how important it is to write that way so this song really resonates with me.

PC: You learned a lot about yourself and your craft by putting this album together. Can you talk a bit about that evolution and how it’s shaped your artistry?
Logan: I learned so much! I think patience was a big one. Not only to be patient with the evolution of the songs but with myself too. I’m a Capricorn who can be pretty hard on myself. Making mistakes can sometimes feel like a bigger deal than they are, so learning to be easier on myself in the process really helped. Also, distractions. They’re everywhere and can very easily mess with my flow so I’ve learned a lot about focus and finding ways for myself to come back to center. I also realized I’m someone who needs space mentally. Sometimes taking a break from working on the songs to go for a walk or a yoga class can do wonders for the work and mind.

PC: A band or artist that fans would be surprised to learn is on your playlist?
Logan: The Offspring.

PC: First album you bought?
Logan: 40 Oz. To Freedom by Sublime.

PC: First concert you attended?
Logan: Weezer.

PC: An album that changed your life and why?
Logan: Born to Die by Lana Del Rey. I think it’s a perfect album and every song is so specific and timeless. I first heard the album when I was in high school and would daydream about my future in class. It made me excited to experience life and express myself.

PC: A venue on your bucket list to perform at?
Logan: Red Rocks.

PC: A must-have on the road?
Logan: My diary and vibrator.
