Why You Should Watch HBO’s Insecure
HBO’s new series, Insecure, is a show that you MUST check out. Created and written by YouTube star Issa Rae, the show is based on her YouTube series, Awkward Black Girl, which chronicles the life and insecurities of a non-profit youth organizer, Issa Dee and best friend, Molly (Yvonne Orji).
The show’s pilot episode premiered on October 9th and has gotten wonderful reviews from critics and most importantly – fans who feel the show is a direct representation of their own struggles. Insecure has the perfect combination of humor, drama, and of course, those awkward moments that we have all had to deal with before.
The show tackles issues like: struggles in the workplace, old and current flings, and a lot more but what we really love is the sisterhood of Issa and Molly, which is strained at times, but overall extremely heart-warming and endearing.
Another highlight of the show happens to be its soundtrack. In episode 1 alone, the show featured artists like Drake, Kendrick Lamar, Raphael Saadiq and more, which adds to the relevancy and helps even more with how easily viewers are able to connect to and identify with its characters. One of the things I love most about Insecure is how Issa Rae manages to incorporate current issues happening in America with the story – yet another prime example of why we’re hooked.
Got enough information to be ready to dive into the show? You can head over to Issa Rae’s YouTube channel now to watch the first episode, titled “Insecure As F*ck”. We guarantee you’ll fall in love with it as quickly as we did.
‘Insecure’ airs Sunday nights at 10:30PM on HBO. We’re expecting even more greatness from Issa Rae – don’t miss it!
