The Batman Trailer Finally Drops at DC FanDome

TheBatman

DC FanDome came and went, and with it brought a practical cornucopia of trailers and sneak peeks. Among them is the latest The Batman trailer starring Robert Pattinson. Continuing the trend of superhero franchises getting darker and grittier with every iteration, The Batman looks to be even edgier than what was portrayed in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy and Zach Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The trailer starts with a lunatic mummifying someone with duct tape, and Batman beating a dude to a bloody pulp for asking a simple question!

We also see glimpses of franchise favorites like Catwoman (Zoe Kravitz), James Gordon (Jeffrey Wright), the Penguin (Colin Farrell), and lots of riddles left by the Riddler (Paul Dano). That’s a lot of villains for Batman to address in one movie! However, director Matt Reeves said during the DC FanDome event that the villains aren’t necessarily the centerpiece for the film, but Batman himself:

“For me, what’s really important about this iteration is a lot of the other stories are about how he had to master his fear and master himself in order to become Batman. In that Batman state, he’s sort of in his best self. What’s exciting was not doing that. Not doing the origin, not doing what we’d seen done beautifully in other movies. But instead, to meet him in the middle of this criminological experiment, to see him in the becoming of Batman and see him grow and fail and be heroic – do all of the things that we associate with Batman but in a way that felt very human and very flawed.”

The Batman is scheduled to hit theaters October 1st, 2021.
