Nick Tarabay Returns in ‘Spartacus: House of Ashur

Deadline reports that Starz has greenlit Spartacus: House of Ashur, with Steven S. DeKnight returning as showrunner and executive producer.

It’s hard to believe it’s been over a decade since the original Spartacus aired, and Nick Tarabay’s incredible performance as Ashur is still vivid in my mind. Tarabay portrayed Ashur perfectly; as an audience member, you’d both hate and despise the character, yet you couldn’t help but like the actor portraying him. Nick Tarabay’s scene-stealing charisma continues to shine in every project, and I’ve embarrassingly gushed over his role as Cotyar in The Expanse.

“A decade ago the groundbreaking original Spartacus captivated viewers worldwide and we’re excited to deliver more enthralling, high-octane drama that our fervent fans have been anticipating,” said Kathryn Busby, president of original programming at Starz. “It is an honor to team up with Steven again as he expands upon the storytelling within this thrilling, action-packed universe.”

Obviously, this new show is a bit of a retcon of the original series, as Ashur actually dies at the end of Spartacus. Starz describes the series as a “history-bending, erotic, thrilling, roller-coaster experience,” and I’m chomping at the bit, ready to see what they have in store for us.
