Exclusive Interview: Pop Culturalist Chats with The Other Two’s Case Walker

Case Walker is one of Hollywood’s most exciting up-and-comers. Since bursting onto the scene with his viral TikToks, Chase has made the effortless transition into acting with his leading role in HBO Max’s The Other Two.

The critically-acclaimed comedy follows an aspiring actor and his sister, a former professional dancer, as they try to find their place in the world while wrestling with their feelings about their thirteen-year-old brother Chase’s sudden rise to internet fame.

Pop Culturalist was lucky enough to speak with Case about his transition from social media star to leading man and Season 2 of The Other Two.

PC: How did you discover your passion for acting and music?
Case: I’ve always loved having creative outlets. Growing up, I would play these different characters and I was in theater at school, so it always felt like a given that this was what I would go into. I was like, “I should do acting because I love it.” As I grew older, I came to think of it as more of a possibility for college or the future. I was able to get into it at a young age through social media. That was very surprising, and it’s been amazing.

PC: Who or what has had the biggest influence on your career?
Case: Personally, my parents have had the biggest influence on my career. They’ve been so supportive, and that’s what you need when you get into this business at a young age.

Career-wise, I’d say the entire cast and crew of The Other Two. We’ve been working together for four and a half years. Everyone has helped me grow as an actor and as a person in this industry. They’ve been the biggest inspirations.

PC: You’ve had tremendous success already in your career. When you look back, is there a particular moment that stands out to you?
Case: Getting the call that I was cast in The Other Two. That was huge. I was like, “This is the real deal.” That was a big moment. It felt really good and exciting. That was a defining moment.

When I first started on social media back when I was in Colorado, I was making videos on my phone. My parents were like, “Wait, what’s going on here?” As I gained a following, they got on board. That was also a defining moment.

PC: The first season has been incredibly well received. What do you think is resonating most with audiences?
Case: I think what’s resonating most with audiences is how grounded this show is. There’s a lot going on with Chase Dreams and his family, but amidst all the fame, they’re a real family. They do everything that we all do. It’s really cool to see how they are real people. Plus, you get insights into the craziness of this world—the joys of it, the ups and downs.

PC: At the end of the first season, Chase makes the decision that he’s going to attend college. What’s ahead for him in Season 2?
Case: Season 2 is a growth season for Chase. In Season 1, we introduced you to this youthful version of him and showed you how he handled jumping into this world. We got introduced to his family. Now, we’re going to see a lot more growth from all the characters. Chase gets a lot of opportunities to make decisions that weren’t open to him in Season 1.

PC: There are so many great relationships throughout the first season. Which was your favorite to explore and why?
Case: It has to be the relationship between Chase and his older siblings. They sometimes try to benefit from his career, but Chase is so genuine. He loves them. In the first season, he creates the song “My Brother’s Gay and That’s Okay.” It’s hilarious. Cary [Drew Tarver] is like, “Oh my gosh.” But Chase does that from a genuine place. He’s supporting his brother. That relationship has been so cool to explore.

PC: There are so many great comedic moments between Chase and Streeter. How did you and Ken Marino approach that dynamic between your two characters?
Case: Ken is hilarious. He does a lot of improv. He loves to mess around. That creates a really fun dynamic. Streeter is really connected to Chase. Streeter’s life depends on him. [laughs] I don’t think Chase realizes that in the first season, but we definitely see a bit of that in Season 2.

PC: This is your television debut. What’s been the biggest lesson you’ve learned about yourself and your craft?
Case: I’ve learned how much work goes into these productions. I’m working with legendary actors and writers. I’m always listening and observing, which is incredibly important in this business. If you feel like you’ve learned everything, you’ll never learn anything.

PC: In addition to The Other Two, you’re also a musician. Are there any updates on the music front?
Case: Music has been a big hobby of mine. It’s a safe place for me. I love singing, playing guitar, and writing music. In the future, there could be some more music from me, but I’m not planning anything specific right now.

Case: The 100.

PC: Guilty pleasure movie?
Case: The Fast and Furious franchise.

PC: Favorite book?
Case: I’m a big fan of The Hobbit. I really love fantasy and just getting into that world.

PC: A band or artist that fans would be surprised to learn is on your playlist?
Case: I like a bit of country, but I also listen to emo rap. I’m all over the place. [laughs]

PC: First album you bought?
Case: Justin Bieber. When I was younger, I had all his albums downloaded on my phone and I’d just belt them in the morning.

PC: First concert you attended?
Case: That was also Justin Bieber. It was the Believe tour. That’s still one of my favorite moments.

PC: Dream role?
Case: I’d love to do a coming-of-age film like Good Will Hunting. I would also love to star in an indie film about a runaway kid who turns his life around.

PC: Who would you like to work with in the future?
Case: Chris Pratt. He’s hilarious. That would be so fun.
