Best Moments from Netflix’s ‘Shadow and Bone’ Teaser Trailer

Our time has come, Grishaverse fans! Netflix finally released a teaser trailer for Shadow and Bone, the upcoming TV adaptation based on Leigh Bardugo’s bestselling young adult fantasy novels, The Grisha Trilogy. In Shadow and Bone, the country of Ravka suffers under the weight of the Shadow Fold, a wall of darkness that divides the country in half and is swarming with terrifying creatures who feast on humans. Alina Starkov, an orphan and mapmaker, discovers an extraordinary power within her that could destroy the Shadow Fold and heal her country. As Alina learns to harness her magic for the sake of Ravka, sinister forces work against her.

From the breathtaking cinematography to the beautiful costumes to the spectacular special effects, Shadow and Bone has everyone buzzing with anticipation for the next big YA adaptation to hit the small screen. See what the hype is all about in the teaser trailer below.

General Kirigan/The Darkling

The teaser opens with an ominous voiceover from General Kirigan (aka The Darkling to Grishaverse fans) that describes the horror of the Shadow Fold and what it will take to dismantle it. Kudos to actor Ben Barnes for the delivery of this absolutely chilling and intense narration that left me shook.

Six of Crows Characters

One of the most surprising aspects of the Shadow and Bone adaptation is that it will include characters from Leigh Bardugo’s second young adult series, Six of Crows. There is an exciting but brief glimpse of Kaz Brekker, Inej Ghafa, and Jesper Fahey in all of their seedy underworld glory. I can’t wait to find out how they fit into the story and see them interact with new characters.

Alina’s Display of Power

In a visually stunning and dramatic sequence, the trailer reveals Alina’s power to summon light. As a book fan, this was one of the scenes I was especially eager to see come to life and the teaser didn’t disappoint.

“You and I are going to change the world.”

It’s always great when adaptations incorporate the source material in their story. This line from General Kirigan to Alina upon their first meeting is a memorable one for book fans. I love that we get to hear it in the show!

Season 1 of Shadow and Bone premieres on April 23^rd on Netflix.
