Ones to Watch: Shadowhunters’ Harry Shum Jr.

He danced his way into our hearts as Mike Chang on Glee. Now, Harry Shum Jr. stars as the beloved High Warlock of Brooklyn, Magnus Bane. He acts, he dances, and he sings. There isn’t much he can’t do.

In 2002, Harry got his big break in BET’s Comic View, where he was the only featured male dancer. His dancing talents landed him roles in Step Up 2: The Streets and Step Up 3D. He’s performed alongside artists including Jennifer Lopez and Beyoncé. But Harry’s full range of talent will be on display in 2016.

This year is shaping up to be big for Harry and that’s why he’s one to watch. He’ll make his return to the big screen in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: The Green Legend and stars in Freeform’s latest hit television show, Shadowhunters. And, guys, don’t worry, Harry has a huge role on the show! He’ll be playing, as he describes, the “freewheeling bisexual,” Magnus Bane.

Harry teases that Magnus has an eye for a particular Shadowhunter. If you’re a fan of the book, you already know who it is. And, I’m sure you’re as excited as I am. Harry told E!, “I think we’ve done well with the show with pleasing the fans that do know about it and also the fans that can learn and see the story unfold between those two characters.” There’s also an episode in the near future dedicated to the couple. They’re about to be your new favorite ship!

What many fans may not know that Harry is also a successful businessman. He founded Tenth + Fourth. The editorial brand explores the intersection of creativity and commerce. If you haven’t visited the site, let me tell you, it’s a good read.

With so many projects in the works, Harry is definitely one to watch.
