Exclusive Interview: Pop Culturalist Chats with Quincy Fouse

Multi-talented entertainer Quincy Fouse has sunk his teeth into the industry. He’s quickly established himself as one of Hollywood’s most exciting up-and-comers, starring as the lovable vampire, M.G., on The CW’s Legacies, which was renewed for a second season. When he’s not fighting supernatural creatures on the screen, he’s putting his heart and soul (pun intended) into his debut album, SOULSPACE, which captures pivotal moments of the conscious movement of his will. Pop Culturalist recently spoke with Quincy about his multifaceted career.

PC: How did you discover your passion for acting and music? Is there one that you naturally gravitate towards?
Quincy: The spark of passion and the spark of career-building are two different moments for me. The passion began with my parents: my father entertaining my family with an enthusiastic story and then proceeding to scratch records on his turntables for my mom and I to dance to for hours at a time. Both of my parents had it all. I was nurtured through entertainment and I could never pick one over the other.

PC: Who or what has had the biggest influence on your career?
Quincy: As far as my career goes, Donald Glover. He was the first person I had ever seen in entertainment that was “too white for the black kids and too black for the white ones”, and I literally thought I was the only one. After listening to Camp and watching Community, I was inspired to manifest my own talents to not only express, but to also eventually make money.

PC: Tell us about your new single, “I Know”. What inspired the track?
Quincy: As cliché as it sounds, love…not being in love, but being overstimulated by it and acknowledging that this feels amazing…I want more, but I don’t quite know what that means…and I’m becoming okay with that.

PC: You just released the music video for “I Know”. Walk us through the initial concept to the final product.
Quincy: I wanted something to capture that search for rationality in this irrational feeling—the moment where it’s hard to just be and let things go with the flow. I told Barry Galperin (my video’s director), he threw a space suit at me, and I said, “This is gonna be dope.”

PC: If you had to pick one song off SOULSPACE that best represents you as an artist, what would it be and why?
Quincy: The song that best represents me on SOULSPACE would have to be “Pace”. It’s the moment where I acknowledge everything I am, what I’m fighting for, my peace…and my pace. The re-drop is coming soon, so check it out!

PC: Legacies was renewed for a second season. Where would you like to see your character’s storyline head?
Quincy: I would LOVE M.G to just go full out Blade (the Marvel daywalker/vampire hunter). [laughs] Maybe by then his personality could handle a relationship with Lizzie Saltzman.

PC: As we look ahead to the rest of the year, what does 2019 hold for you?
Quincy: More music dropping as well as a short film I wrote and executive produced. Me just living out my dreams in general. [laughs]

Pop Culturalist Speed Round

PC: Guilty pleasure TV show?
Quincy: One Punch Man, but there’s no guilt there.

PC: Guilty pleasure movie?
Quincy: Where the Wild Things Are

PC: Favorite book?
Quincy: The Alchemist

PC: Favorite play or musical?
Quincy: Giacomo Puccini’s La bohème

PC: A band or artist that fans would be surprised to learn is on your playlist?
Quincy: Jack Stauber [laughs]

PC: An album that changed your life and why?
Quincy: Camp by Childish Gambino sparked me having social confidence in myself.

PC: Hidden talent?
Quincy: I can make a pretty cool water drop sound with my mouth. [laughs]

To keep up with Quincy, follow him on Twitter and Instagram, and pick up “I Know” on Amazon Music, iTunes, or stream it on Spotify.
