Exclusive Interview: Lexi Janicek Talks The Really Loud House

Lexi Janicek is back reprising her role as Lisa Loud in The Really Loud House. A fan favorite among audiences, The Really Loud House brings the beloved animated series to life, showcasing brand-new stories that we’ve never seen before. Lincoln Loud navigates the chaos of living in a family with ten sisters with the help of his best friend Clyde McBride. Pop Culturalist was lucky enough to speak with Lexi about the show!

PC: How did you discover your passion for storytelling?
Lexi: Ever since I was a toddler, I’ve loved to play pretend. I’m the only one in my family in the entertainment industry. For years, I would turn out the lights and make my brothers hold flashlights (my spotlights!) on me so I could perform for the family on the coffee table (my stage). Eventually, I even made posters to advertise around the house and created little tickets that they needed to enter my show. I think that’s when my mom realized I might want to try acting!

PC: Who or what has had the biggest influence on your career?
Lexi: My mom has definitely had the most influence on my career. She had no background in the industry and never expected us to be here. My family has always been more into sports, but she learned what we needed to know and has been helping me ever since. She helps me record self-tapes, photographs my headshots, and travels for my jobs. I definitely wouldn’t be able to do this without her.

PC: You’ve had a lot of success already in your young career. When you look back, is there a particular moment that stands out?
Lexi: I think the moment that stood out to me the most was when I first booked the role of Lisa in the Loud House Christmas movie. That was my first big SAG role, so it’s hard to forget that booking phone call! When my agent called, she said “Hi, can I speak with Lisa?” I was really confused because Lexi sounds like Lisa. I thought maybe she was confused! I didn’t really respond because I didn’t know what to say. Then she said, “I’d like to speak to Lisa Loud please!” And then I realized what she was saying! My mouth just dropped when I realized that I had booked the role. I started celebrating and jumping up and down on my bed. Such a cool, memorable moment!

PC: Because of the success of A Loud House Christmas, Nickelodeon is bringing you all back for The Really Loud House. How did you find out about the news? How did you celebrate?
Lexi: We found out about the series from my manager. I was actually shocked because I thought if anything we might do another movie, but I wasn’t even sure if that would happen! Getting a series was such exciting news! I was actually heading out to LA for another project at that time, so I was able to get together with some of the LA-based Really Loud House cast—Ella Allan, Mia Allan, and Wolfgang Schaeffer. We had a pre-series game night and pizza party! It was so much fun to be back together, and we got even more excited about filming the series!

PC: What was it like getting to step back into Lisa’s shoes? What can you tease about her storyline in The Really Loud House?
Lexi: Lisa has really become a part of me at this point. It’s really easy for me to move from Lexi to Lisa and back again. I love getting to play her! In the series, you’ll definitely see more of her quirky personality and more of her cool experiments. You’ll also see an emotional side of her in one or two of the episodes. I’m excited about that! It’s a really nice development for her character and one that I think the fans will appreciate.

PC: There’s such great chemistry that comes off the screen between you and the entire cast. How were you all able to build and grow that bond?
Lexi: None of the cast members are actually from New Mexico, so we rely a lot on each other for social interactions and outings while we’re on location. We actually spend a lot of time together off-set doing fun things like rock climbing, roller skating, and going out to eat. The younger girls also have a lot of sleepovers! We definitely have genuine friendships throughout the cast. I love that the chemistry really comes through on screen.

PC: If you had to pick the scene/episode that you’re most excited for audiences to see, what would it be and why?
Lexi: Oh wow, there are so many cute episodes! The songs are always really popular and a lot of fun. There is one episode that has a carnival/fundraising-type situation that was super fun to film. The costumes are always fantastic, but these were amazing. That episode has a great story too and a great song that I think everyone will enjoy.
