4 YA Contemporary Books for Your 2020 TBR

Young adult rom-coms have become of my favorite genres to read in recent years. I enjoy the romance tropes, the banter, the swoon factor, and the lovable characters. Their light-hearted style makes them perfect to read at any time of the year.

Check out these four YA contemporary books I’m looking forward to reading in 2020!

Bookish and the Beast by Ashley Poston
Release date: August 4th
The third companion book in the Once Upon a Con series is a fangirl retelling of Beauty and the Beast. Rosie Thorne is a bookworm and Starfield super fan. Vance Reigns is a superstar actor dealing with the fallout from a scandal. Chloe and Vance are forced into working together to fix an accident involving a valuable book. Will their time together lead to romance or heartbreak?

Rent a Boyfriend by Gloria Chao
Release date: November 10th
College student Chloe Wang hires Drew Chan to be her fake boyfriend to avoid the pressure her Taiwanese parents are putting on her to accept a proposal from a sought after eligible suitor in their Asian American community. As Chloe begins to fall for the Drew behind the persona, will she risk it all for love?

10 Things I Hate About Pinky by Sandhya Menon
Release date: July 21st
The third novel in the Dimpleverse series stars Indian-American teens Pinky Kumar and Samir Jha as they fake date their way through a summer in Cape Cod. Pinky is a passionate champion for social justice causes, while Samir is a meticulous planner and an all-around nice guy. Will the saying “opposites attract” prove true for Pinky and Samir?

Instant Karma by Marissa Meyer
Release date: November 3rd
Prudence Daniels gets the ability to bestow instant karma upon the citizens of her coastal town. There is only one, Quint Erickson, who is immune to her power. Prudence’s overachieving ways clashes with Quint’s slacker tendencies as they bear the burden of being lab partners. As Prudence and Quint learn more about each other, will their feelings change from hate to love?
