Exclusive Interview: Pop Culturalist Chats with Kelsi Davies
Kelsi Davies first burst onto the scene when she took the internet by storm as a content creator. She quickly made a name for herself and built a loyal fanbase with over three million followers.
Since then, she’s successfully made the transition to film and music, showcasing her multifaceted talent.
Pop Culturalist was lucky enough to speak with Kelsi about her inspiring career and latest single “Done”.
PC: How did you discover your passion for content creation and the arts?
Kelsi: I’ve always been super artsy ever since I was little. I always loved the arts, acting, and being in front of the camera. I like being behind it as well. I did a lot of acting in high school and took acting classes. Later on, my best friend Mady suggested we start a YouTube channel together. I had been building up my Instagram and doing some acting and whatnot. I wasn’t really familiar with YouTube, so I was like, “Okay, let’s try it out.” We started a channel called Mady and Kelsi. Through that, we started getting super into the paranormal, and then we split off on our own because we had different content that we wanted to make.
Then a friend of mine told me that I should start posting more on TikTok. I was like, “I don’t know anything about it.” He was like, “Well, you act and dance. People like that on there.” So I gave it a shot. It wasn’t until I got my haunted doll that my TikTok started blowing up and everything started popping off. That’s how it started.
PC: What is your process like when you’re working on a piece of content? Has that changed over the years?
Kelsi: It depends on the content. I usually do medium readings or ask my haunted doll questions. I’ll film and edit it so that it looks professional. I taught myself how to do that when I was in seventh or eighth grade. I would edit these music videos that I created. They were dumb, but the work paid off when I started creating content for YouTube.
PC: Who or what has had the biggest influence on your career?
Kelsi: Definitely my parents. They have always believed in me and what I do. They’ve always told me that I could do this. I would also say I’m my biggest motivator. I’m always pushing myself to see what my limits are. Believing in yourself is super important.
PC: You’ve got a new single out now. Can you tell us about “Done” and the inspiration behind the song?
Kelsi: “Done” was written and produced by Comanavago. It’s the story of two people who have feelings for each other and are deeply in love, but they’re not meant to be together. Theirs is a toxic relationship, and the song is about letting go of that. It’s about letting go of that back and forth. We put together a music video that was directed by London Lane. She also choreographed it as well. I produced and edited it. Cameron Schmucker was our cameraman. We also had Jalen, who is an actor and dancer. It was a really fun process. Everyone was super, super fun on set and very respectful. It was super professional. We had so much fun. I had this vision, and they helped me put it all together.
PC: There are so many different facets to your artistry and talent. Does one come more naturally? Is one more challenging?
Kelsi: Singing is new to me. I would always sing in my car, and I would do impressions of other music artists that were weirdly good. All my friends wanted me to do them, but no one ever really knew that I actually enjoyed singing. I wanted to try it out. I wanted to test what I could do.
Acting is super natural to me. I’ve always been really observant of people and their facial expressions, and when I would watch movies I’d picture myself as the actor.
