Exclusive Interview: Ava Kolker Talks “All to Myself,” Manifest West, and More
Singer-songwriter and award-winning actress Ava Kolker is one of Hollywood’s rising young storytellers. Whether she’s releasing hit singles like “Eventually” or starring in TV shows and films like Girl Meets World and Insidious: The Last Key, Ava’s talent knows no bounds. Pop Culturalist caught up with Ava to talk about all the exciting projects she has out now!
PC: You have a new single out now. Tell us about the inspiration behind “All to Myself.”
Ava: “All to Myself” is about my love for music and how much music can take someone out of their daily struggles and provide an escape. That’s something that builds an incredible bond between an artist and their lyrics and their fans.
PC: Who are your favorite artists that you turn to when you’re looking to escape?
Ava: I would say my favorite artists are Billie Eilish, Harry Styles, and Lady Gaga.
PC: You’ve dropped a few singles so far in your career. If you had to pick one song that best encompasses who you are as an artist, which would it be and why?
Ava: “Ahead of Me” best describes me as an artist because it is my most raw song and comes from a very real, vulnerable place, and it helped me heal in the most difficult time in my life.
PC: You also have a new film dropping this week. Tell us about Manifest West, your character, and what drew you to this project.
Ava: Manifest West first came to my sister Lexy. We found out there was a character in the film that was a little older and was a bad influence, so we thought that would be perfect for me! [laughs] I loved the role because it’s the first film I got to work on with my sister and it’s the type of troubled character I have never played, so I was intrigued.
PC: This project finds you sharing the screen with your sister. What was that experience and collaboration like?
Ava: So fun! We kept forgetting we were filming and just had fun together. There is a scene where my character Lana teaches Lexy’s character Riley to smoke, and we had to keep a straight face but we kept cracking up. I really loved it and I hope we can do more projects together.
PC: As we look ahead to the rest of 2022 and into 2023, what can fans expect from you? Are you working towards an EP or album? Could we see you on the road?
Ava: Yes! I am working on an EP to release hopefully in early 2023, so stay tuned for that!
