Book Review: Huda F Are You? by Huda Fahmy
I recently finished reading Huda F Are You? by Huda Fahmy. This was one of the most highly-anticipated books of 2021. In fact, it’s the graphic novel that landed Huda Fahmy a deal with Penguin Random House. If you’re not familiar with Huda, you should definitely check her out on Instagram.
Highlights
- I love how relatable and funny this graphic novel is!
- Huda realizes that her personality can’t be wearing a hijab.
- Huda attempts to fit in with the Hijani gamers, fashionistas, and other groups. Ultimately she realizes it’s not for her.
- Huda mentions what it was like after 9/11 and how things drastically changed for Muslims.
Lowlights
- There wasn’t any. I just wish this book was longer.
Final Thoughts: I adored this graphic novel and I can’t wait to see more from Huda! This is a beautiful coming-of-age graphic novel that’s perfect for anyone. It’s also something that I resonated with as an American Muslim attending an Islamic school. My experiences are definitely different from Huda’s, but I loved how Huda weaved in humor, touched on important topics within the Islamic community, and was unapologetically Muslim. This book is a must-read!
