We chatted with Katelyn about her creative journey, the inspiration behind “Aspen,” and what lies ahead.

PC: Songwriting has been a cornerstone of your artistry. What would you say has had the greatest influence in shaping that aspect of your craft?
Katelyn: I started out writing some very emo songs in middle and high school. When my parents got divorced at seventeen, songwriting became my outlet to process those feelings. It was definitely a “sad girl” era for me, but that’s how I fell in love with songwriting—it became my safe space. Then I discovered Brad Paisley’s 5th Gear album, which introduced me to the idea that songs could be heartfelt yet clever and witty. That record really stoked my passion as a songwriter. Living in Nashville has also had a huge impact on me. The songwriting caliber here is unmatched, and it has pushed me to become the best songwriter I’ve ever been.

PC: You’ve already achieved so much in your career. When you look back, is there a particular moment that stands out as especially meaningful or memorable?
Katelyn: Thank you! I have so many fond memories, but one that really stands out was singing backup for an artist at the MTV Europe Music Awards in Ireland. I remember being backstage, grabbing some food, and sitting down at a table. Not long after, Chris Martin from Coldplay sat down right next to me. I don’t usually fangirl, but I’ve always had a lot of respect for him. I told him how much I enjoyed his last record, and he immediately quipped, “You’ll get over it soon.” It still makes me laugh every time I think about it!

PC: Your lyrics are celebrated for their creativity and emotional depth. Is there a particular lyric you’ve written that holds a special meaning for you?
Katelyn: Oh wow, that’s a great question. I’d have to say nearly every lyric in my song “S.L.U.T.S (Southern Ladies Under Tremendous Stress)” holds a special meaning to me. There’s so much we deal with as women, and creating something that could offer a sense of relief to anyone listening was incredibly meaningful. It was also one of the most fun songwriting experiences I’ve ever had—I felt like a kid in a “word playground” crafting that song!

PC: Your new song, “Aspen,” drops today. Can you tell us about the inspiration behind it and what the song means to you?
Katelyn: “Aspen” is such a special song to me. I wrote it by myself, and it’s inspired by my now-husband, who has been my rock and my safe space. It’s a sweet, winter love song with some playful wordplay twists—true to my style (always expected) [laughs]. A little humor and a little heart is what I’m all about. “Aspen” is one of my favorites, and I can’t wait for people to hear it and make it their own!

PC: As we look ahead to 2025, what does the year hold for you?
Katelyn: I have so many new songs and stories to share in 2025, and one of the things I’m most excited about is doing more live shows online. I’ve discovered that I really love connecting with my audience in that way—it feels so much more chill and intimate, like we’re just friends hanging out and goofing off together. Creating spaces where I can connect with fans authentically is incredibly fulfilling, and I’m thrilled that 2025 will bring even more opportunities for that!
