Exclusive Interview: Pop Culturalist Chats with Brooklynne Webb

Brooklynne Webb

Rising star Brooklynne Webb has always been unapologetically herself. It’s why she’s resonated with millions of fans around the world and emerged as one of the top creators of her generation.

Pop Culturalist was lucky enough to speak with Brooklynne about her multifaceted career, her new album My Crown, and what’s ahead for 2022.

PC: How did you discover your passion for the arts and content creation?
Brooklynne: For me, I always grew up doing musical theater and dance. I always loved watching YouTube. I was raised when social media influencers were starting to become prevalent. I fell into that. I really enjoyed going on social media and expressing myself. The more I did it, the more I found myself wanting to take it more seriously and do it every day.

PC: There are so many different facets to your talent. Does one come more naturally to you? Is one more challenging?
Brooklynne: I would say I’m the most comfortable with my ability to do makeup, and I love to dance, but all of them are sprinkled in there. I love that I’m able to do a little bit of everything.

PC: You’ve had a lot of success already in your young career. When you look back, is there a particular moment that stands out to you?
Brooklynne: Probably one of my favorite moments was when I first started TikTok and I had my first video go super, super viral. I remember there were a lot of people that I’d watched for years that started to duet or interact with it. That was one of the coolest and first moments that I realize how cool everything is.

PC: Tell us about My Crown and the inspiration behind it.
Brooklynne: I started working on it about nine months ago. It was a super, super fun project. I’m really grateful that I got to do something that was not taking itself too seriously and super fun. I got to work with so many amazing and creative individuals. The album is super funny. The album is a bunch of remixes of “My Crown.”

PC: Did anything surprise you about the experience of putting it together? What was the biggest takeaway?
Brooklynne: It was about getting out of my comfort zone. Nothing is as scary as it seems. Getting into a recording studio and singing wasn’t as scary as I thought it was going to be, neither was singing live or doing things on a music video set in front of a bunch of people. My biggest takeaway is that if I go into things with confidence, it usually comes out a lot better.

PC: You’ve used your platform to build awareness for body positivity. How did you discover your voice as an advocate?
Brooklynne: I really discovered my voice as I started to gain a following. I realized, “Hey, I have a platform. I’m reaching a lot of people. I need to do something and speak to the things that I’m passionate about.” I felt very strongly about that, so I started to create body positivity content.

PC: You also recently started your own merch line. How did that come to fruition?
Brooklynne: The phrase, “I am unapologetically me,” is something that’s always really stuck with me. It’s something that I’ve always stood for, so I wanted to have something that was very comfy and casual, but also stuck with people and resonated with my audience.

PC: As we look ahead to 2022, what can fans expect?
Brooklynne: It’s going to be a big year for self-discovery and figuring what I want to do in the big picture over the next few years. There’ll be a lot of new things that people will hopefully see me doing or trying to do. It should be fun.
