We Say Goodbye to American Idol

Last night, America said goodbye to one of it’s most beloved television shows: American Idol. After 15 seasons of bringing forth brand new, raw talent and entertainment galore, Fox has officially ended Idol’s run. The two hour series finale brought back some of Idol’s most loved and memorable alumni including: Carrie Underwood, Fantasia Barrino, LaToya London, Taylor Hicks, Katharine McPhee, Kellie Pickler, Jordin Sparks and the original Idol, Kelly Clarkson. We were even treated to a reunion of the show’s original three judges: Randy Jackson, Paula Abdul and Simon Cowell.

As only American Idol could do, the entire finale was packed with some brilliant performances and duets that once again tapped into the viewer’s hearts. Even current judges Harry Connick, Jr, Jennifer Lopez and Keith Urban joined in on the festivities, each hitting the stage with some memorable moments themselves. Lopez, 46, who has recently begun her residency in Las Vegas debuted her sizzling brand new single, titled “I Ain’t Your Mama” which is certainly set to blast radio airwaves this summer.

What would American Idol be without some of it’s most iconic auditionees? Season 3’s William Hung and Season 9’s General Larry Platt hit the stage to perform “She Bangs” and “Pants On The Ground”, which the crowd absolutely loved. Season 6’s contestant Sanjaya Malakar, who became infamous for his outrageous hair styles also made a few cameo appearances.

Take a look at Idol’s 3 divas, Jennifer Hudson, Fantasia Barrino and LaToya London performing a stirring medley below:

Of course, the big moment of the night went to none other than Trent Harmon, who was the final winner of American Idol after beating out singer La’Porsha Renae for the crown. Harmon’s debut single, “Falling” is now available to purchase on iTunes. The single, which touches on old school rock and soul, delivers on emotion, dramatics and is certainly true to the type of artist we feel Harmon will be. Watch Trent Harmon win the Idol crown and perform his brand new single:

We at Pop Culturalist thank American Idol for 15 years of incredible talent, unforgettable music, talent, laughs and the drama that we all tuned in for each week.
