Teen Wolf: Saying Goodbye Is Never Easy
Teen Wolf is closing its doors to Beacon Hills High School and saying a fond farewell to all its residents. After six long seasons, this series about a teenage werewolf is coming to end and it’s truly bittersweet. In honor of the series officially wrapping, we fondly remember the main characters – and actors – that made Teen Wolf such a special show.
Scott McCall was the hero we deserved
From the moment Scott McCall was introduced in the pilot, we knew he was going to be a character we would root for and be excited to go on this journey with. Having no say in his fate, he was given “the bite” without his consent, he rose above his werewolf instincts and learned how to use his newfound abilities for the greater good. Throughout the series Scott proved time and time again he was always willing to do what was necessary to protect those he loves. With his unwavering kindness and beautiful smile, Scott won his way into our hearts. Much like Tyler Posey did with his portrayal of this heroic character. We think it’s fair to say that no one loved Teen Wolf more than Tyler. The biggest champion of the show, he embraced its fandom with open arms and undying appreciation. It’s going to be extremely difficult to say goodbye to Scott McCall, but maybe even harder to say goodbye to Tyler Posey.
Stiles Stilinski proves he’s more than just a sidekick
First introduced to the series hanging upside down in a tree, we knew we were in for a treat when it came to Stiles Stilinski. Little did we know how much this character would grow and change throughout the series. Starting off as the funny sidekick to Scott’s apprehensive hero, he had an endless supply of zingers and an appetite for adventure. As the series went on we saw the many layers to Stiles, most memorably when he was possessed by the Nogitsune and was dubbed by the fandom Void Stiles. This could have easily been a one note character but thanks to Dylan O’Brien’s phenomenal portrayal, he became one of the most well-crafted characters on the series. Throughout Stiles’ ups and downs, we saw what a truly gifted actor Dylan was and continues to be. Stiles was a flawed character and wasn’t perfect by any means, but that made him all the more relatable. He was also the only human in the pack. When the final episode airs and the curtain draws closed, it will certainly be a tearful goodbye to both Stiles and Dylan.
Lydia Martin breaks the mean girl stereotype
When we first met Lydia Martin, she was queen bee of Beacon Hills High School and your typical mean girl prototype. Once the series started to peel back her layers, we learned there was much more to Lydia than met the eye. We also learned that much like Scott, she had supernatural capabilities of her own. As the series progressed, Lydia became aware of her developing Banshee abilities and harassed them to protect those in need. She overcame her mean girl persona and grew into a strong, confident, gutsy young woman who saved countless lives – including her own. It’s evident how much Lydia means to Holland Roden and we can only assume Lydia will make as bold an exit as the entrance she made to the series.
Malia Tate shows how fearless women can be
While Malia Tate made a late entrance to the series, it was without a doubt an unforgettable one. Having spent several years in her werecoyote form after losing her family, Malia had to readjust to life as a human being. Arguably the most fearless character on the series, Malia was always ready to fight for those she cherished and never wavered in her loyalty to the pack. Finding an anchor in Stiles, a leader in Scott and a friend in Lydia, she was able to integrate into high school life and what it meant to be a teenager. Shelley Hennig’s excellent portrayal of the character made her all the more enjoyable. She gave her a real zest for life and comically displayed Malia’s idiosyncrasies having to assimilate back into society. Both Malia and Shelley are fan-favorites and have made their mark in the Teen Wolf universe and we will miss them deer-ly.
Kira Yukimura is one badass Kitsune
Introduced as the quirky new girl in school that caught Scott’s eye, Kira had an instant likability factor. The more we got to know this intriguing character through the eyes of Scott, the more we adored Kira. While Beacon Hills has no shortage of supernatural beings, Kira was definitely one of the fiercest with her impressive Kitsune powers and badass katana-yielding skills. From the moment we met her, Kira was willing to risk it all for people she barely even knew. Selfless, powerful and endearing, Kira easily found her way into Scott’s pack and subsequently our hearts. Arden Cho was able to strike a nice balance between bravery and vulnerability during her time as Kira, and we can only hope to have the opportunity to say a proper goodbye to this magical character.
Derek Hale proves no all monsters are monstrous
Entering the series as a shadowy figure in the woods, Derek Hale was a man of mystery. We quickly learned that though Derek did not give Scott “the bite”, he was the Alpha Werewolf and is not one to be trifled with. Derek initially came off as intimidating and threatening, but as the series unfolds we become aware of his past and how much he carries the weight of the world on his shoulders. No stranger to loss, most of Derek’s loved ones have parted in reprehensible ways, thus making us sympathize and come to understand this brooding character. Despite all his loss, he never loses his sense of duty and willingness to right the wrongs. He even takes Scott under his wing and helps him to fully comprehend what it means to be a werewolf. While he wasn’t the greatest of Alphas, he did find his rightful place in the world and was able to find a bit of peace in it. We would be remiss if we didn’t mention how much Tyler Hoechlin’s portrayal of Derek made him a standout character in the series and beloved by the fandom. Though Tyler has moved onto greener pastures, we hope he will bring back this iconic character one last time so we may bid adieu to Derek Hale.
Allison Argent is forever a warrior in our hearts
Where to even begin with Allison Argent. From the moment she knocked on the door to the Beacon Hills Animal Clinic, she had a instantaneous spark with Scott. Their romance was the quintessential love story and one of the most heartwarming aspects of the series, but when they went their separate ways we really got to see what an exemplary character Allison was. Coming from a long line of werewolf hunters, Allison had to learn where her place was in the supernatural world. Through the seasons, Allison grew into an impeccable warrior with unparalleled skills when it came to wielding a bow and arrow. Saving all our favorite residents of Beacon Hills numerous times, Allison more than proved her capabilities as a hunter and her loyalty to her friends and family. She was unrelentingly courageous and embraced her own death knowing she had saved her friends and got to spend her final moments with the love of her life. Crystal Reed’s beautiful and complex portrayal of Allison Argent will live on well after the series airs its final scene.
Liam Dunbar is the goofy little brother we never knew we wanted
Liam Dunbar joined the series as the first person Scott ever gave “the bite” to, which he did to save his life. By turning Liam into a werewolf, Scott took on the responsibility of showing him how to manage his newfound supernatural abilities. Liam wasn’t the easiest student, and was a reminder of how much both Scott and Stiles had grown over the course of the show. Liam came into his own eventually, with a few one liners that rivaled even Stiles’ – “I fell in a hole” being the most memorable. Even though Liam was a green as they come, he was ready and willing to face any danger head on. Thanks to a good mentor and a great pack, Liam is now well-equipped to handle himself in Scott’s eventual absence. Dylan Sprayberry makes Liam interesting by bringing out his fun, playful side, as well as displaying his inner turmoil when dealing with his anger issues. When Teen Wolf comes to an end, let’s hope Liam Dunbar is left standing.
We will never be able to find the right words to properly express our feelings for this show and how grateful we are to the cast. We love this series more than words and know letting go won’t be easy, so to ease the pain we leave you with this infamous Melissa McCall quote: “You fall in love more than once. It will happen again. It will be just as amazing and extraordinary as the first time and maybe just as painful. But it’ll happen again. I promise. But until then, be your own anchor.”
