#TBT: 7 of the Best Grammy-Winning Songs About Love

The Grammy Awards are coming up–airing on February 15–so this #TBT is dedicated to some of the best Grammy-winning songs about love. While there are a plethora of songs to choose from, these ones will always have a place in my heart (and on my “best romantic songs” mixtape).

I’ve Had the Time of My Life, Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes, 1987

This iconic song is guaranteed to stir up memories. Obviously, this was the theme song of a wonderful 80s movie (Dirty Dancing), which itself is very iconic. There are countless covers of this song, and I am sure there will be countless more in the years to come.

I Will Always Love You, Whitney Houston, 1993

Speaking of iconic: Whitney. Originally written and performed by Dolly Parton in 1967, Whitney recorded this cover for–you guessed it–a movie. The Bodyguard may be most widely-known because of this song. It is one of the bestselling singles of all time.

You’re Still the One, Shania Twain, 1998

When this single came out in the late 90s, it was a crossover hit on country and pop radio. I remember watching this music video on VH1 (and MTV perhaps?) and crooning to this in the car. After this single, Shania became a country artist that I didn’t mind listening to.

My Heart Will Go On, Celine Dion, 1998

Winning in the same year as Shania, “My Heart Will Go On” is probably more globally-known. I don’t think there was a song for a movie (Titanic, duh) that was–or is–more widely known than this. Not only did I see Titanic several times in the movie theater, but I immediately taped this music video off of MTV and taped it off the radio (ah, the good old days of VHS tapes and cassettes).

Crazy in Love, Beyonce & Jay-Z, 2003

The power couple of everything are Beyonce and Jay-Z. Their first official collaboration is also everything. This song was the song of the summer, and you couldn’t turn on a radio or VH1 or MTV without hearing or seeing this. You can’t help but want to dance along to this single.

Lucky, Jason Mraz and Colbie Cailat, 2009

I already loved Jason Mraz and his sound when he released this song with Colbie Cailat. While not my favorite Mraz song, this is a catchy, whimsical, and airy love song. I’m sure it has been played at many weddings since it’s release!

Just the Way You Are, Bruno Mars, 2010

Who doesn’t love this song? It has been covered a bunch (Glee might have been my favorite), and it’s message is beautiful, the vocals are great, and the sound is catchy.

Taraneh

Taraneh has been happily living in NYC for over a decade, but originally hails from the Midwest. Enamored with books at a young age, she grew up making stories, playing make believe, and loving the musical and performing arts. She is great at binge-watching TV shows. Some current favorites: Schitt's Creek, A Court of Mist & Fury, Prince Harry, and The Magicians.
