Sherlock Returns in Stellar Season 4 Premiere

It’s been a long wait for Sherlock fans, but the newest installment of the smart and addicting mystery show is here!

Even now, after the season premiere, that is STILL an amazing trailer. Needless to say, this new season is sure to be one of the best.**SPOILERS AHEAD**

One of the fantastic things about getting back into a good show, is being reminded of why it is so good. So, here are our favorite moments from the season premiere of Sherlock, “The Six Thatchers”:

Smarty-pants moment
Sherlock (Benedict Cumberbatch) cracks the case of poor, deceased, young Charlie (Rob Callender) in, like, point two seconds. Watching the scene, my mind was racing to try and come up with a clever answer a la Sherlock, but the truth never occurred to me. Sherlock had obviously figured out what happened before he even got to the parents’s home. The false front car seat was a clever trick so kudos to the series writers for coming up with that one.

Laugh out loud moment #1
It was brief and (maybe) predictable that involved John (Martin Freeman) and Mary’s (Amanda Abbington) baby, Rosie, and godparent Sherlock. Sherlock logically telling Rosie not to throw her rattle only to have Rosie do what a baby does (throw it again) was great. Sherlock’s face in that moment was doubly great. It’s always entertaining when Sherlock is reminded of humanity in other people since it perplexes him a lot of the time.

Laugh out loud moment #2
When Watson puts a smiley faced red balloon in his chair while Sherlock deals with a client.

Shocking moment #1
Just when you think that Moriarty (Andrew Scott) is going to reveal his posthumous plan via the Thatcher busts that Sherlock has been tracking, there’s a twist. It’s actually all about Mary! When Sherlock discovered the jump drive with A.G.R.A. on it (the same, you may recall, that Mary gave Watson to explain her shady past) inside the final bust. We finally learn the truth about Mary’s past, and the suspense kicks up a notch from this point on.

Shocking moment #2
John’s dalliance with the woman on the bus. To me, this plotline seemed so uncharacteristic of Watson that I actually yelled at my screen. Why did he have to have a secret because Mary had a secret? Is it just the business of sleepless nights of new fatherhood that pushed him to this? I’m hoping that they explore it a little more in the future because, otherwise, that is one plotline that should be struck from the record.

Shocking moment #3 (and perhaps the most shocking of all)
Obviously, Mary’s ending. All I can say is: SHE REALLY DIED. WHAT!?

Overall smarty pants moment
The entire theme of this episode, based on the “Appointment in Samarra” tale, was brilliantly done. The episode was full of characters trying to outrun something that inevitably finds them in the end.

After an episode of twists and turns, we’re excited to see how the rest of this season pans out. I mean, Sherlock now has the biggest case of his career to solve, thanks to Mary: saving John Watson.
