SDCC 2019: Highlights from the Marvel Games Panel
The Marvel Games Panel at San Diego Comic-Con was packed with info on all the recent and upcoming Marvel releases!
First up is Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order. The trickster himself, Loki, was revealed as the next playable character. Colossus and Cyclops will follow on August 30. In addition to playable characters, the first downloadable content pack was detailed to contain the Marvel Knights: Blade, Moon Knight, Punisher, and Morbius!
Next up, we had an in-depth look at Iron Man VR, coming soon to the PlayStation 4. It looks fun; you put on the Playstation VR helmet, grab the PS VR wands and become Iron Man himself. Marvel showed him flying over the coast, weaving between islands and shooting baddies with your repulsors. Check out the trailer below:
Hall H was shown twenty-minute long gameplay footage featuring Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Captain America, and Black Widow. Fighting through the streets of San Francisco with fiery explosions that shower debris everywhere, the fight concludes with a showdown between Black Widow and Taskmaster on the Golden Gate Bridge. After trading blows back-and-forth, our heroes realize that Taskmaster was only distracting them, and, as a result of this, Captain America subsequently perishes in a Heli-carrier crash.
Marvel provided sparse plot details after the initial prologue, but we did get a glimpse of the character customization in Avengers. There are various skill trees for each character and multiple paint jobs and skins for each hero that you can tailor to fit your play style. They even showed off Hulk in a three-piece, pin-striped suit!
It looks great, and I’m quite curious about Crystal Dynamics’ take on the Marvel Universe. Game director Shaun Escayg also reiterated that they were going to develop this game for years to come.
Marvel’s Avengers is set to release on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Google Stadia
on May 15, 2020.
