SDCC 2018: Beyond the Convention Center

It’s that time of year again: San Diego Comic-Con! There’s always so much to do and see during the show that it’s hard to wade through all of the information. Luckily, we’ve picked out a handful of cool experiences outside of the convention center for you to try.

Amazon Fire’s “Fast Forward to the Future”
Location: corner of 7th Ave and Market St.
Fans can try the all-new Fire TV Cube. It will take users on a journey through the evolution of television.

DC Universe Experience
Location: across from the convention center in the Gaslamp Quarter
Another spot with dozens of activities and installations including: Dick Grayson’s Titans loft and uncover clues to his whereabouts, Dr. Niles Caulder’s creations in the Doom Patrol lab, the mystical swamps of Swamp Thing, a Young Justice Watchtower, create mayhem in the Harley Quinn chaos room, step into the sewers with Batman and descend into madness in The Court of Owls, and enjoy the first public unveiling of rare artwork and memorabilia.

Deadpool’s Dream Suite
Location: The Hard Rock Hotel
So, unfortunately, this is an exclusive experience. One SDCC attendee will win a free night in the Deadpool Dream Suite on Saturday. The suite is modeled after Deadpool’s apartment and comes fully-stocked. A select group of other SDCC attendees will be able to tour the suite. So, if you don’t win, be on the lookout on social for pictures of this cool spot.

FXHIBITION
Location: lawn of the Hilton San Diego Bayfront Hotel
This includes a bunch of activities. “The Legion Chamber” art instillation where participants will find themselves disconnected from the outside world -literally- and fully entrenched in the hypnotic digital realm of David Haller. Then, there’s the “American Horror Stories Eccentricities Gallery,” Mayans M.C. Deconstructed Bike Zone, Archer Sound Boxes, Sunny the 13th Sunscreen and Water Stations, and FX 3D Me.

Jack Ryan’ Hyperreality Activation
Location: park located at the corner of 1st Street and Martin Luther King Promenade
There are several different steps to this experience. There’s the Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan Experience where attendees will step into a thrilling field assignment. Visitors will complete the Jack Ryan Training Field by infiltrating, fighting and evading the enemy to gain full field clearance. They will then use that training to help Jack Ryan himself in Dark Ops, a groundbreaking escape experience that bring to life the pilot episode Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan. Attendees can also hang out at the Middle Eastern themed Bazaar and watch people compete on the Training Field.

Nerdist House
Location: Sparks Gallery

There will be live shows and conversations with creators here. There will also be a bunch of fun things to do including a VR experience based on the sci-fi series SONA; the Bizarre States podcast party for fans, and much more!

Project Blue Book Headquarters from HISTORY Channel
Location: Petco Parking Lot
Attendees get all-access clearance to the previously classified Project Blue Book Case Files. This will bring one of the most mysterious eras of US history to life with modern technology and immersive experiences, including a chance for visitors to send a message billions of miles into space.

Ready Player One Experience
Location: The Gallery at The Omni Hotel
An interactive walkthrough activation full of nostalgic gaming stations and authentic film props and costumes. Test your knowledge of the film and 1980s trivia in two challenge rooms and explore the depths of The OASIS, including the haunted room 237 from The Shining.

Sacred Lies Escape Room
Location: Petco Park
The new show is based on the classic Grimm Brothers tale The Handless Maiden and Stephanie Oakes’ novel The Sacred Lies of Minnow Bly, Sacred Lies is about a handless teen who escapes from a cult and finds herself in juvenile detention, suspected of knowing who killed her cult leader. Attendees will participate in an Escape Room themed on the show!
