On the Road: Tor Miller

There’s no place like home. So, it seems fitting that Brooklyn’s iconic Knitting Factory was the first stop on Tor Miller’s North American tour. The native New Yorker has a deep connection with the city—often referencing landmarks like the High Line and the L Train in his songwriting. And, on Friday, the sharply dressed singer-songwriter took the stage a few days ahead of the release of his debut album.

Already praised as an ‘Artist to Watch’ by The Huffington Post and Nylon, Tor Miller is no stranger to performing live. He’s supported artists on the road including George Ezra, James Bay, and Aurora. But, this go around, he’s the headlining act. And, he’s proven his talent can draw a crowd.

The intimate venue was packed to capacity with devoted Tor Miller fans. They fed off his energy—singing and dancing along from the start. And, that excitement continued to build as the set went on. It’s hard to believe but his stellar vocals sound even better live. And, watching him perform “Carter & Cash” is another experience. Sadly, he didn’t do an encore of it. I guess we need another show in NYC, right? Or a live recording!

If we had to sum up Tor Miller in two words it would be “old soul”. And, we mean that as a compliment. His laid-back vibe, chill persona, and distinctive style is refreshing. With Tor Miller, there are no gimmicks. It’s just an artist and his piano pouring his heart and soul in front of an audience. And, after a thrilling set, the egoless artist even made time to thank fans, sign autographs, and take photos. There’s a lot to like when it comes to Tor Miller.

On any given day, there are thousands of artists performing around the city. But, none like Tor Miller. He’s about to make it big. Trust us! If you want to see #ToronTour, check out dates on his official site. And, pick up his album, American English, on September 30th!
