Pop Culturalist Chats with Spencer Sutherland

Every once in a while, someone comes along who possesses true triple-threat qualities. That is certainly the case with singer, songwriter, and model Spencer Sutherland. At just 23 years old, he is not only back with an amazing single, “Bad Influence”, but is also taking over the world of modeling by being signed to one of the world’s biggest agencies, Ford Models. We had the honor of chatting with Spencer about his new single and the big things he has coming up soon.

“Bad Influence” Questions

PC: We definitely want to thank you for taking the time out to do this interview. We’re big fans here. We heard the new single. It’s absolutely fantastic.
Spencer: I appreciate that. Thank you so much.

PC: You’re welcome. Tell us a little bit about the new single.
Spencer: It was released two months ago. It’s called “Bad Influence.” It’s actually a true story about wanting to be with someone when they’re not really good for you. It’s a “bad influence” because you’re obviously influenced to go with her, but you know she’s trouble. You can’t help yourself.

PC: What was the experience like in filming the music video—coming up with the concept and everything?
Spencer: That was so fun. Most of it was shot in a downtown L.A. apartment that was so cool—sickest location ever. That was fun. I got to do it with my really good friend who is a director. His name is Cam. His company is called Bangout Films. They really killed it. It’s super good. We were able to have a couple of friends on set. It was a great time.

Fan Questions

PC: Nice. We took time out to get some fan questions. We have a few of those we’d like to ask. Do you have any upcoming shows in the works? When can fans expect to hear about them?
Spencer: Yes. I have a few shows coming up on September 4th in Columbus and September 5th in Pittsburgh.

PC: When will we be getting any new music? Will it be coming anytime soon?
Spencer: For sure. You can be looking for that in late September or October. Lots of cool stuff going on.

PC: If you could perform with any other musical artist, who would it be and why?
Spencer: There are so many people I could choose. I have to say, Bruno Mars, just because his voice is incredible. His tone is crazy. His live performance brings so much to the table. It would be an insane experience.

PC: Do you have any musical influences?
Spencer: Yeah. My old-school influences are Elvis, The Temptations, and Marvin Gaye. Then, I have other ones like Justin Timberlake, Bruno Mars, and Chris Brown.

PC: Those are definitely some greats right there.

Pop Culturalist Speed Round Questions

PC: The way we usually wrap up our interviews here is with a speed round. It’s just five questions that we like to pop straight out. Are you up for that?
Spencer: Totally.

PC: The first one is: What is your guilty pleasure TV or movie?
Spencer: Mean Girls.

PC: That’s a good one. What’s your favorite play or musical?
Spencer: All Shook Up. It’s a musical with all Elvis songs. It’s my favorite I’ve seen so far. I think I like it because I’m a massive Elvis fan.

PC: Do you have a favorite book?
Spencer: One of my favorites of all time is a book called Hole. I read it in the sixth grade and it’s always stuck with me.

PC: Who is a band or artist that people would be surprised to learn you have on your playlist?
Spencer: A lot of people would be surprised to know that I have a lot of Green Day on my playlist because that was the first band I ever listened to. I know every single Green Day song there is.
