Pop Culturalist Chats with Mollee Gray

Mollee Gray is Hollywood’s newest triple threat. She’s an actress, dancer, and singer. She’s starred in two of Disney’s biggest franchises: High School Musical and Teen Beach Movie. And, she hasn’t looked back. We were lucky enough to chat with the talented starlet.

Career Questions

PC: Dancing has played a huge role in your career. Was it always a passion?
Mollee: My mom and dad put me in dance when I was three, so dance has always been a part of me. It became my outlet for life. Anytime I need an emotional release, I go book studio space and improv!

PC: You’re a part of Disney history. Was there a favorite off-camera moment from either High School Musical or Teen Beach Movie?
Mollee: Thank you! I think my favorite memories of High School Musical would be during our breaks. We would go to one of the cast member’s trailer and play Super Mario Bros! We were all so competitive, and it was fun release from a long work day!

PC: Do you have advice for young fans looking to break into the industry?
Mollee: YES! I know this sounds cliché, but if you believe in yourself, you can succeed. I had SO many people tell me I didn’t have the look, talent, etc., and if I would have listened to them, I wouldn’t have the career I do today.

PC: South32 just hit theaters—what are you hoping the audience takes away from the film? And, what did you learn from the experience?
Mollee: South32 is a dramatic thriller based on the repercussions of bullying; that is definitely different from my Disney exposure! I hope the audience is able to see the true effect and damage that is done when people bully others. Also, I believe my fans will watch this and see my growth as a person and an actor, as this is a more mature role. A lot of them have been with me since High School Musical, so it’s very humbling knowing they are growing up on this journey with me.

PC: Of all the characters that you’ve played, has one resonated more than others?
Mollee: My character Amanda in my Lifetime movie Double Daddy, was probably the one that hit home the most. My character went through some traumatic life experiences that I believe a lot of high school students are going through or have been through.

PC: You’re a fantastic musician/singer—can we expect an EP anytime soon?
Mollee: Thank you, so much!! I am definitely constantly writing new music in my journal, as soon as I have the time to get into the studio, I definitely will! You will be hearing from me soon. 🙂

PC: Do you have a dream role?
Mollee: I have been a fan of Law and Order: SVU since I was a toddler! I grew up watching it with my grandma, so I think it would be so fun to guest star on that show!

PC: A lot of the So You Think You Can Dance alumni have made their way to Broadway. Is that something you’d be interested in?
Mollee: I’ve gotten some offers, and I have thought about it, but right now my passion is in film and TV! Maybe some day along the road, but I am happy where I am at!

PC: You’ve performed on The Voice, Ellen, Dancing with the Stars, Glee, The Kids Choice Awards, etc. What’s been your favorite moment?
Mollee: Definitely meeting and chatting with Ellen! She’s easily the best person I have ever met! I love her!
