The gifted singer-songwriter creates an unforgettable listening experience with her cinematic songs about dreams and aspirations. Pop Culturalist was lucky enough to chat with her about the highly-anticipated release.
PC: When did you realize you wanted to be a musician?
Sarah: When I was about four years old, my mother tells me that all I wanted to do is sing and put on shows for my family members. I came into the world singing!
PC: Who were some of your musical influences growing up?
Sarah: I have such a variety. I would say Patsy Cline was my biggest Country influence. Her voice is like no other. I’m also a big fan of Joni Mitchell and Stevie Nicks.
PC: What do you hope fans take away when listening to your music?
Sarah: I hope that fans dream a little bigger after listening to my music. There’s a sense of wanderlust in my lyrics as well that sends you to a beautiful place.
PC: Do you have a favorite song that you’ve written?
Sarah: My favorite song I’ve written is “Halley’s Comet.” It’s a track off of my new album, Dream Country. It’s a song that relates to anyone chasing a dream and where they fit in the world. We are all meant to shine bright!
PC: What is your songwriting process like?
Sarah: I typically will hear or feel something and have to write it or I don’t stop thinking about it. I will record sound memos into my iPhone. I also write about what’s really happening to me in that very season of life. They are my little biographies and soundtracks to my universe.
PC: Who’s an artist or band that you would love to collaborate with?
Sarah: I’d love to collaborate with Chris Martin from Coldplay. I love songs that bring light and he does that well.
PC: What inspired your forthcoming album, Dream Country?
Sarah: Dream Country was inspired by the season of stepping into the great unknown and making the record I’ve always dreamed about from start to finish. This is the first time in my career I was able to do that.
PC: What can you tell us about the album?
Sarah: It’s an honest portrayal of a dreamer and hopeless romantic. There aren’t any breakup songs or love songs on the album, which I like for a change. It’s really about the subjects that connect us all. There are a lot of songs about stars too! I wanted the listener to feel uplifted and full of light when they heard my album.
PC: Are you planning a tour following the release?
Sarah: Yes, I’m putting these plans together as we speak. I will be touring the US and the UK next year.
PC: When can fans expect the first single?
Sarah: “Halley’s Comet” will release be released on January 27. I’m like a kid I’m so excited! It’s a song that means so much to me.
PC: What’s the most personal song on the album?
Sarah: “Stargazer” has become the emotional one for me. It’s all about not hiding when you get hurt in life. It’s so easy to build a fortress around your heart. The beauty of a person is when their heart is open. I feel like everyone can relate to this one.
