Pop Culturalist Chats with Lindsay Lamb

Trust us when we say 2017 will be all about Lindsay Lamb. The gifted young actress has several films coming out this year including Apple of My Eye and Blue Line. And we can’t wait to see them. Pop Culturalist was lucky enough to chat with this rising star about her upcoming projects and how she prepared for each.

Apple of My Eye Questions

PC: Tell us a bit about the film and your character.
Lindsay: The film centers around a young girl who loses her sight in a horseback riding accident. I play Jenny, her Braille tutor, who helps her connect to people in a way she never thought she would.

PC: What about the script resonated with you the most?
Lindsay: The idea of coming together in hard times and overcoming unforeseen obstacles and becoming stronger from it. I think that it’s something that people of all ages go through so that really resonated with me.

PC: Did you have to learn Braille for the role? What kind of research did you do?
Lindsay: No, I definitely didn’t learn Braille, although that would have been amazing. Braille is incredibly intricate and with the short turn around it would have been impossible (at least for me, ha!). I did do a ton of research on my own. And once I got to Florida, the staff at Southeastern Guide Dogs took me under their many wings and let me borrow tools, games, books… really everything I could get my hands on. They are a wonderful group of people; I really can’t thank them enough.

PC: What was it like working with Amy Smart and Burt Reynolds?
Lindsay: Surreal, as cliché as that may sound! They were both so kind and giving. They were more than happy to sign autographs and take photos with anyone who asked and were just such cool humans. Working with them is something I will never forget.

PC: What do you hope fans take away from the film?
Lindsay: I hope one of the messages that fans take away is to keep going—if life throws obstacles at you, don’t give up, fight back. And if you see a friend or a loved one going through a hard time, be a support system for them. Life is tough, we all have to help each other through it and besides, it’s more fun that way.

Blue Line Questions

PC: Tell us about the film and what role your character plays in the storyline.
Lindsay: Blue Line centers around a woman, played by Jordan Ladd, and her best friend who go on a “crime spree” of sorts in order to escape an abusive relationship. I play Bunny Abbott, the cheerleading captain, who the women kidnap and hold hostage knowing that the cops won’t open fire when a high school cheerleader is in harm’s way.

PC: How did you prepare?
Lindsay: Blue Line was one of the first features I booked in Los Angeles so I was still figuring out the whole preparation thing. I knew I had to prepare but I didn’t really know how. I read the script at least 5 times and made sure I was completely off book. I also trained pretty hard at the gym because I knew I was going to be in a cheerleading uniform and I wanted to look the part. Let’s just say I’m very grateful for our wonderful director, Jacob Cooney, for all of his guidance and patience.

PC: What was the most challenging scene to film?
Lindsay: Well, we were filming in Cromwell, Connecticut in the dead of winter and I was playing a cheerleader… so it was cold, to say the least, and my wardrobe didn’t provide any warmth! We were constantly battling the snow storms coming through and there were definitely days that we were all too exhausted and frozen to even think straight, but all in all it was 100% worth it. The footage I’ve seen looks amazing and I’m so excited to see the final product when it’s released this March.

PC: Blue Line was your first project after graduating from USC. What did you learn from the experience?
Lindsay: I learned so much, it’s hard to sum it all up but I think primarily I gained an outrageous amount of admiration and respect for every single member of the crew. So many of them go without any acknowledgment and they work so freaking hard, it’s unreal. I also obviously learned that I had a lot more to learn… I’m still learning with every new set I’m on.

PC: Guilty pleasure TV show?
Lindsay: Any crime documentary…and The Bachelor, which is basically a crime documentary.

PC: Guilty pleasure movie?
Lindsay: How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days

PC: Favorite book?
Lindsay: The Opposite of Loneliness by Marina Keegan

PC: Favorite play or musical?
Lindsay: Anything written by Sam Shepard. I love the play, Fool for Love.

PC: Favorite social media platform?
Lindsay: Instagram

PC: A band or artist people would be surprised to learn is on your playlist?
Lindsay: I have a playlist that includes Blink-182, Phil Collins. and Justin Bieber, so there’s that.

PC: Hidden talent?
Lindsay: Convincing people that I’m not insane, ha! Also, Amazon Prime-ing while I’m asleep…that’s a talent that can’t be taught!
