The 2016 Tony Awards were a hit. James Corden was a stupendous host. All the musical performances were wonderful. The #HamforTonys bits before commercial breaks were creative. The speeches were all heartfelt (if you haven’t seen Lin-Manuel Miranda and Frank Langella‘s speeches…what are you waiting for?!). It was an incredibly diverse group of nominees (Oscars, take note: all four actors who won for Best Leading and Supporting Male and Female Roles in Musicals were people of color). And, yes, Hamilton took home a whopping 11 awards. In short, the Tonys were

1) He’s hilarious. There’s nothing sexier than a good sense of humor. His stand-up is great–lately, he’s been doing a lot around dating in today’s world but I also always enjoyed his bits about his cousin Harris. His stories about Kanye West, especially, are amazing: 2) Master of None was such a good show (that I could relate to on a whole ‘nother level, as I’m a first generation Taiwanese American)–funny, heartbreaking, and it perfectly captures the experience of being in your late twenties, early thirties in a big city.

I’m not even going to hold back on this: you should see The Lobster. Why? The Lobster takes place in an alternate version of our world where single people are taken to the country and must find a significant other within 45 days, otherwise they’re turned into an animal of their choice. This, as you can see, offers a perfect frame for director Yorgos Lanthimos to comment about societal norms around love and relationships. The best part?
