Man Crush Monday: Joshua Henry

If you’ve been following Hamilton’s meteoric rise like we have, you’ll know that Hamilton’s expansion to the Chicago theater scene includes a great number of talented performers, including one of our favorites, Joshua Henry (he’s playing Aaron Burr).

Joshua Henry has been a professional actor since graduating from University of Miami in 2006. Since then, he has been in several wonderful shows both on-and-off Broadway. They are varied the Paper Mill Playhouse production of Godspell to Broadway hits like American Idiot and In the Heights. Not only has he been a part of several critically-acclaimed shows, he’s also been recognized for his performances by receiving Tony-award nominations: one for The Scottsboro Boys and one for Violet. Needless to say, Joshua Henry is one heck of a performer.

So, without further ado, here are just a few moments that made us love Joshua Henry even more (and why he’s our Man Crush Monday):

His first Tony nomination was for his role as Haywood Patterson in The Scottsboro Boys. This song is a heart breaker.

He was one of my favorite parts of Violet. His character was so lovely, and the way Joshua Henry brought him to life was exactly right.

Completely and utterly NOT about his artistic talent, but I totally approved of the pencil-mustache he sported in the recent production of Shuffle Along.

Finally, do yourself a favor, and watch his #HamJames for #HamiltonChi. They are the best! Obviously, the original songs are terrific as they are written, but hearing them adapted to different styles of music and sung with Joshua Henry’s silken vocals (and sometimes with the help of other cast mates) is just divine. Here is one of my favorites (my all-time favorite? His rendition of “Dear Theodosia”).
