Exclusive Interview: Pop Culturalist Chats with Young Dylan About Kid of the Year

Young Dylan is a multifaceted talent who’s making an impact on the world through his craft. So, he’s the perfect role model to help Nickelodeon, TIME, and TIME for Kids with their first-ever Kid of the Year initiative. Alongside five peers, Young Dylan has recognized five influential young leaders who are making a positive impact on the world. Pop Culturalist sat down with Young Dylan to chat about the special, which airs tonight on Nickelodeon, TeenNick, and Nicktoons at 7:30 pm ET.

PC: You’re on the Kid of the Year committee. How did this opportunity come about?
Young Dylan: This opportunity came about when Nickelodeon reached out and wanted me to be a part of this. I was so excited.

PC: What can fans expect from the special?
Young Dylan: Fans can expect to see kids who are the same age as us making a difference in the world.

PC: How challenging was it narrowing the twenty finalists down to five?
Young Dylan: It was really challenging narrowing the kids down because they were all talented and all doing something to make the world a better place.

PC: What was it like collaborating with the rest of the committee and Trevor Noah?
Young Dylan: It was really fun collaborating with the kids committee, and I had met Trevor Noah before, but it was very brief. But this time was so much fun. At lunch, he and I had a rap battle. I never knew Trevor Noah could rap!

PC: What has it meant to you being a part of this special?
Young Dylan: It meant a lot to me because I got to learn a lot about these kids, and that some of them are doing more than grown-ups as far as making this world better.

PC: Besides Kid of the Year, where can fans see you next? What’s ahead?
Young Dylan: Fans should be on the lookout for my new music.
