Exclusive Interview: Pop Culturalist Chats with The Unicorn’s Makenzie Moss

Makenzie Moss is an up-and-coming actress to keep your eye on. She can next be seen in the laugh-out-loud comedy, The Unicorn, starring opposite Walton Goggins, Ruby Jay, and Rob Corddry. Pop Culturalist sat down with Makenzie to chat all things The Unicorn.

PC: Tell us about The Unicorn, your character, and what drew you to this project.
Makenzie: The Unicorn is about a recently widowed husband with two daughters who enters the online dating world. My character is a jock who specifically has a passion for soccer. She has this sarcasm as well as common sense that makes her wise beyond her years. But, she also has a bit of a chip on her shoulder. I think the uniqueness of this show drew me in as well as the incredible actors attached to it.

PC: What similarities/differences do you share with your character?
Makenzie: I think that Natalie and I share the same sense of humor as well as a little bit of sassiness. I’m definitely not a jock like she is and we have a different sense of style.

PC: What can you tease about Natalie’s arc in season one?
Makenzie: Unfortunately, the writers are keeping everything top secret, even I don’t know yet! I am hoping to find out soon.

PC: This is your first role as a series regular. What’s been the biggest takeaway from the experience?
Makenzie: I have love the camaraderies between the cast and crew, but also the burgers at the lot’s cafe are bomb!

PC: You’re an actress, singer, and dancer. How did you discover your passion for the arts?
Makenzie: Ever since I was little, I’ve always wanted to get into the arts. I was dancing around the house. I was making movies and starring in them. When I was five-years-old, my parents just got me an agent. I auditioned and loved acting ever since.

PC: How challenging is it to manage life as a normal twelve-year-old and your career?
Makenzie: I’m not going to lie, it is pretty difficult. Since I work Monday through Friday, I’m not able to hang out with friends during the week. But, I try to hang out with them on the weekends. I also invite them to come to set and see what it’s like behind the scenes, which is pretty cool!
