Actress Jordana Lajoie always looks to find the truth in any character she embodies. It’s one of the reasons she’s become one of the most sought-after actresses of her generation. This September, she reprises her role as the mysterious weapons specialist Cherie in Amazon Prime’s The Boys. We caught up with Jordana to chat about everything Season 2!
PC: How did you discover your passion for the arts?
Jordana: That’s a really good question. I can never really answer this question the way I feel like I should because the honest-to-God truthful answer is I have no idea. But as far as acting goes, I know that I was always drawn to it from a very, very young age. I always enjoyed putting on plays for my family to see, doing the things that little kids do when they’re young.
Eventually, I grew up and I still more or less was drawn to it. I didn’t think it would be the path that I would embark on until I decided to take some acting classes as a hobby to help with my public speaking because I wanted to go into international law. I was studying political science at the time. I thought it would be a good thing to have in my toolbox. The next thing you know, it slowly took over, and now I’m here talking to you.
PC: Who or what has had the biggest influence on your career?
Jordana: I would say my acting teachers. I’ve had some amazing mentors where I grew up. They taught me to appreciate art in all of its forms and to really come from a place of truth and to follow my heart. They wanted me to approach things from a place of truth. That’s been so important. Whenever I do anything now, I always think of one particular teacher who unfortunately passed away a couple of years ago.
PC: In addition to acting, you’re also a producer. How has your work behind the scenes made you a stronger actress and vice versa?
Jordana: Producing is a completely different beast. It makes you appreciate the vulnerability of the artist. You really want for them to do well. You’re rooting for them. You have your own targets and objectives. You have a certain budget that doesn’t make sense a lot of times. You have to think outside of the box. It really helped me think outside the box. Whenever I felt like “I can’t do this,” I would think of times where I was given a very small budget and I had to create something that was really great for a certain company or project. It taught me to think outside the box. There’s always a way.
PC: The new season of The Boys is out now. What can fans expect?
Jordana: It’s going to be an exciting roller coaster ride, just like Season 1. But it’s going to be a completely different roller coaster ride. It’s going to have crazy ups and downs. You won’t expect certain things, and it’s going to have a different energy.
PC: How has your character changed from Season 1 going into Season 2?
Jordana: There’s definitely more of a vulnerability. She’s a very mysterious person. No one knows who she is. There’s a mysterious aura to her, but at the same time, there might be a bit more depth and vulnerability shown in Season 2.
PC: The series has already been picked up for a third season. Where would you like to see your character’s story line head?
Jordana: I secretly want her to be a double agent. So far she’s been helping the Boys and she’s very, very loyal, but I think spicing it up a bit might be interesting. I don’t want to say too much because I don’t want to jinx myself.
PC: Guilty pleasure TV show?
Jordana: 90 Day Fiancé.
PC: Guilty pleasure movie?
Jordana: It’s not a bad movie, but I love Bridget Jones’s Diary. When I’m going through a bad breakup, I pull that movie out. I have to watch it at least once a year.
PC: Favorite book?
Jordana: Probably the Harry Potter series. I have to reread it once a year.
PC: Favorite play or musical?
Jordana: I really like Stephen Adly Guirgis.
PC: A band or artist that fans would be surprised to learn is on your playlist?
Jordana: Blind Guardian, Symphony X, Type O Negative.
PC: Who would play you in the story of your life?
Jordana: Winona Ryder.
