Exclusive Interview: Pop Culturalist Chats with Nic Howell

Meet Nic Howell. He’s music’s newest heartthrob and is introducing who he is as an artist with his debut EP, Welcome to the Mind of a Teenage Boy. The four-song collection is a unique blend of catchy beats and story-driven lyrics. They embody Nic’s mission of inspiring others to be themselves, and will undoubtedly have you on your feet. Pop Culturalist caught up with Nic to chat about the project.

PC: How did you discover your passion for music?
Nic: One year, I got a guitar for Christmas. Then, I fell in love with singing and writing songs.

PC: Who or what has had the biggest influence on your career?
Nic: My family has had the biggest influence on my career. They’ve supported me the entire way.

PC: As you look ahead in your career, what are some aspirations and goals you hope to accomplish?
Nic: My main goal is to help people be comfortable with who they are and have fun! Everyone is too serious these days.

PC: Tell us about Welcome to the Mind of a Teenage Boy. What inspired the EP?
Nic: The EP is an honest look into what’s been on my mind recently! I wanted to make a super relatable piece of work that people can vibe with. Everything on the EP is really honest and fun.

PC: If you had to pick one song off the EP that best encompasses you as an artist, what would it be and why?
Nic: That’s a hard question. I feel like the whole project really shows who I am as an artist. If I had to pick one song, I would say “Miami” because of the main message behind it, which is taking people out of their daily mindset and bringing them into paradise.

PC: You wrote and recorded the EP in Miami and London. How much of an impact did those two cities have on the writing process?
Nic: Those cities really set the tone for the EP. Miami added the fun factor to the songs, and London added a lot of deep thought within the lyrics of the songs.

PC: What does the rest of the year hold for you all as we look ahead in 2019?
Nic: A lot! I’m looking to play lots of shows and hopefully get another EP out!
