From the creative masterminds behind Superbad, Neighbors, and Pineapple Express, comes the laugh-out-loud, outrageous comedy, Good Boys. Starring Jacob Tremblay, Brady Noon, and Keith L. Williams, Good Boys follows three sixth-graders who ditch school and embark on an adventure of epic proportions. We chatted with actor Keith L. Williams about the project and his character in the film.
PC: Tell us about Good Boys, your character, and what drew you to this project.
Keith: Good Boys is about three hardly-innocent pre-teenage boys who go through a lot of mischievous adventures in order to learn how to properly kiss after being invited to their first kissing party. My connection to the character of Lucas really drew me to this picture because it was like the role was written for me. The director and writers gave me so much room to improvise and really play with the character, which made the filming process so great.
PC: How similar or different are you to your character?
Keith: I very much feel a similarity between Lucas and myself because he’s like the good kid of the bunch, the voice of reason, and definitely the comedian of the Good Boys.
PC: How did you, Jacob, and Brady build your friendship on and off set?
Keith: Jacob, Brady, and I really bonded over the course of the film rehearsal and filming period. Everyone on set called us the “Three Amigos”. We had sleepovers and pool parties, which made filming flow so much smoother because we had built a genuine friendship.
PC: The boys get themselves into some crazy situations. What was your favorite scene to shoot? Which was the most challenging?
Keith: My favorite scene to film was actually cut out. We were singing the song “Bang Bang“ by Jessie J, Ariana Grande, and Nicki Minaj—we had choreography and everything. The most challenging scene that we filmed was probably, again, a scene with choreography. We were running across the mall cafeteria and jumping from table to table, which was challenging because it was so tiring.
PC: How did you discover your passion for acting?
Keith: I discovered my passion for acting through the drive of my older brother, Heath. I would watch him prepare his characters, and it was such a magical process for me watching him dissect each one of them. I was like, “I can do that, too!”
PC: You’ve had a lot of success already in your young career. When you look back, is there a particular moment that sticks out to you?
Keith: The moment that sticks out to me the most is when I was invited to sit in the chair on Jimmy Kimmel Live! He was so nice and down-to-earth; I couldn’t have asked for a better experience.
PC: How challenging is it to balance life as a normal kid and your career?
Keith: It’s not challenging at all to me because acting is my passion, so I don’t even consider it a job. In my downtime, like every other kid, I love hanging out with my friends, my family, and just having fun. You definitely need it as a refresher after being so busy.
PC: Guilty pleasure TV show?
Keith: My guilty pleasure TV show is a tie between Stranger Things and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. I’m addicted to both and my dream is be on one, if not both of those series.
PC: Guilty pleasure movie?
Keith: Mamma Mia
PC: Favorite book?
Keith: My favorite book is Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days. I have the whole book series and the movies too!
PC: Favorite play or musical?
Keith: The Lion King
PC: A band or artist that fans would be surprised to learn is on your playlist?
Keith: Definitely Ella Mai. “Boo’d Up” is my song!
PC: Last show you binge-watched?
Keith: The last show I binged-watched was Stranger Things. I also went to the show’s season 3 premiere, and it was such a great experience. I almost died when I met Millie Bobby Brown. She is such a phenomenal actress and her character is my favorite.
PC: Hidden talent?
Keith: Many people might not know this, but my hidden talent is singing.
To keep up with Keith, follow him on Twitter and Instagram, and catch Good Boys in theaters on August 16.
