Emily Taylor Adams is an exciting fresh voice in the music industry. She’s quickly racking up tons of accolades and was named BCCMA’s “Female Vocalist of the Year”. This past February, she dropped a brand new single about finding the love that you’ve been waiting for entitled “Leave the Light On.” Pop Culturalist chatted with this fast-rising star about the song and all the new music she has coming out.
PC: How did you discover your passion for music?
Emily: I’ve always had a huge passion for music. It’s always been a part of me and just who I am. But I completely fell in love with it when I saw my older sister sing at her school concert when I was about five. I still remember being in complete awe and knowing that I needed to be up there some day! And well, here we are!
PC: Who or what has had the biggest influence on your career?
Emily: I would say the biggest influence would have to be my family! I feel so lucky every day that I have their constant support in everything that I do no matter how crazy it may be. [laughs]
PC: Tell us about your new single, “Leave the Light On”. What inspired the track?
Emily: This song has a soft spot in my heart. The moment Beth [Marie Anderson] and I wrote it, I knew it was special! This song represents that pure authentic love that everyone searches for, finding that soul connection that both people are feeling that is completely unexplainable, but you just know! It’s such a magical feeling of knowing you’ve fallen in love with every inch of someone! No one is perfect but falling in love with someone’s imperfections as well as their amazing qualities is what makes love so amazing, raw and what people search for!
PC: Can we expect more singles this year? Possibly an EP or album?
Emily: Absolutely! Currently in the process of creating an EP, but no release date as of now! But hoping for later this year.
PC: You’ve had incredible milestones already in your career. Is there one that sticks out to you?
Emily: I would say one of my favorite memories was when I was crowned the “Female Vocalist of the Year” at the BC Country Music Awards—that’s a moment I will NEVER forget!
PC: What’s been the biggest lesson you’ve learned being a part of this industry?
Emily: I’ve learned a lot of lessons so far, but one that’s really important is making sure anyone you deal with, or work with, has your best interests in mind!
PC: As we look ahead in 2019, what does the rest of the year hold for you?
Emily: Hm…so much, I want to play more shows, get some more music out, become a better songwriter, a better vocalist, and entertainer. I want to be able to reach a larger audience—both online and in person.
PC: Guilty pleasure TV show?
Emily: Big Brother!
PC: Guilty pleasure movie?
Emily: Oh, geez! I have to say Twilight. Nothing like watching all five on a rainy weekend with chips, chocolate, and candy!
PC: Favorite book?
Emily: No real favorites, but currently reading You are a Badass and Girl, Wash Your Face.
PC: Favorite play or musical?
Emily: Beauty and the Beast
PC: A band or artist that fans would be surprised to learn is on your playlist?
Emily: I just went through my artists to check, and it’s all pretty easy listening music, lots of country and a bit of pop!
PC: First album you bought?
Emily: Dixie Chicks’ Fly
PC: First concert you attended?
Emily: Avril Lavigne
PC: A venue on your bucket list to perform at?
