Exclusive Interview: Pop Culturalist Chats with Charmer’s Brooklyn Queen, Indi Star, and Sophie Fergi

Brooklyn Queen, Indi Star, and Sophie Fergi have audiences under their spell with their bewitching performances in Brat TV’s Charmers. Pop Culturalist was lucky enough to chat with the dynamic trio about the show, what audiences can expect, and they share what superpower they wish they had!

PC: How did you all discover your passion for the arts?
Brooklyn: To be honest, I just happened to fall into the arts. Since I could walk, I have loved music and have been singing and dancing.

Indi: When I was three, I started dancing with my sister at our local dance studio in Massachusetts! My sister and I have always loved singing, dancing, and anything to do with the creative arts. Then one day we moved to LA to pursue all of it!

Sophie: Ever since I can remember, I loved to be in front of the camera and to perform! My mom is a photographer and my dad does film, so I was always in front of a camera.

PC: Who or what has had the biggest influence on your career?
Brooklyn: Definitely my mom. She’s my biggest supporter and keeps me on my feet. As far as music goes, Beyoncé is my biggest inspiration.

Indi: My family has had a huge influence on me. They support me so much in what I do. They even moved to LA to help me pursue what I love!

Sophie: My uncle, Adam Trimmer, also known as Uncle Editor! And my mom Heather Nichole!

PC: Tell us about Charmers, your character in the series, and what attracted you to this project.
Brooklyn: Charmers is the latest Brat TV show. It’s about a coven of teen witches who all go to summer camp. What excited me most about this role was being cast with some of my good friends.

Indi: What attracted me most to this project is that a bunch of my friends work on Brat TV shows so I knew about them from that! My character was kinda fun to play I would say, just because she is so opposite from me. It was fun to get into and create the character!

Sophie: My character is Zaria. She is a gothic emo girl. She’s completely opposite from how I am in real life. That’s what attracted me to the role. Also, I played her on Mani before this show! Mani was the first real acting role I ever had, so this character holds a special place in my heart!

PC: How similar or different are you to your character? Is that easier or more difficult to play?
Brooklyn: It came naturally to me, bringing Senna to life. We have similarities in that we both always stick up for others. We’re both strong, independent, young women who are natural leaders.

Indi: We aren’t very similar actually, except for the fact that we both sometimes shut others out. It kind of gets difficult because I don’t treat people how Paris treats people—like saying all of the mean stuff and doing all of the mean things to the other characters. I think Paris acts out because of a sadness she carries with her. I have to get into that sadness mindset and channel it to really have Paris come out of me.

Sophie: Similar: we both don’t care what people think of us. Different: I’m a really happy, upbeat, positive person; Zaria can be pretty negative and emo, lol. I loved playing her though because it’s challenging.

PC: Which one of your character’s relationships is your favorite to explore and why?
Brooklyn: My favorite relationship is Senna and Clover’s because they never have any drama between them.

Indi: My favorite relationship is definitely Paris and Zaria’s friendship. They have such a complicated past and friendship that you get to learn more about throughout the episodes!

Sophie: The relationship between the characters Paris and Zaria was my favorite to play because it’s the most similar to things that have gone on in my real life, like having a best friend and losing her to another friend.

PC: If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
Brooklyn: If I could have any superpower, it would be to be invisible. I also want the power to bring people back to life.

Indi: Definitely to time travel! Time travel would be super cool.

Sophie: Also time travel because I really want to hang out with my late great-grandmother, Ruthie. I really miss her and wish I had more time with her.

PC: A band or artist that fans would be surprised to learn is on your playlist?
Brooklyn: Bob Seger’s “Turn the Page”.

Indi: Hmm, I love One Direction and Mumford & Sons!

Sophie: M83, Arctic Monkeys, The Neighbourhood, Mumford & Sons, Biggie Smalls.

PC: Dream role?
Brooklyn: To play a musical icon in their movie that tells their story.

Indi: To be a superhero in a Marvel movie! I got to play Spider-Gwen in a toy commercial and it was so much fun!

Sophie: A dream role would be if they did another season of Vampire Diaries or to act alongside Natalie Portman. She’s my idol!
