Rising star Camryn Quinlan is letting her talent speak for itself. Whether she’s performing a cover or an original, Camryn has a voice that will stop you in your tracks. Just ask Scott Hoying (Grammy Award-winning and multiplatinum cofounder of Pentatonix), Ben Bram (Grammy Award-winning arranger and producer), Jonathan Kalter (manager of Pentatonix), or Shams Ahmed (creative director, a cappella arranger, and producer), who invited Camryn to be a part of the supergroup, Acapop! KIDS. Pop Culturalist caught up with Camryn to chat about her experience with Acapop! KIDS and her brand-new single, “Ain’t No Second Chance.”
PC: How did you discover your passion for music?
Camryn: When I first started singing and listening to pop music, I knew I wanted to be a singer. I was obsessed with Sharpay from High School Musical, Selena Gomez, and Hannah Montana when I was little.
PC: Who or what has had the biggest influence on your career?
Camryn: Alicia Keys is a big inspiration. I wanted to sing and write just like her.
PC: You’ve had a lot of success already in your young career. When you look back, is there a particular moment that stands out?
Camryn: When I was Annie in Annie, I had the whole stage to myself when I sang “Tomorrow,” and I got a standing ovation. It was an amazing feeling that I wouldn’t trade for the world.
PC: Tell us about your new single, “Ain’t No Second Chance.” What was the inspiration behind the song?
Camryn: “Ain’t No Second Chance” is a song about a relationship that isn’t always worth fighting for, even though you still have feelings for the person. I was inspired by past relationships.
PC: In addition to releasing your own original music, you’re also a member of Acapop! KIDS. What’s been the biggest lesson you’ve learned being a part of that group?
Camryn: Working with a group brings out the best in everyone because we all support each other, and it’s so much fun.
PC: As we look ahead to the rest of 2020, what does the year hold for you?
Camyrn: Lots and lots of new music.
PC: A band or artist that fans would be surprised to learn is on your playlist?
Camryn: The Eagles
PC: First album you bought?
Camryn: Katy Perry’s Teenage Dream
PC: First concert you attended?
Camryn: Katy Perry’s The Witness tour
PC: An album that changed your life and why?
Camryn: Thank u, next by Ariana Grande. Every song was different and funky. Nothing on that album sounds the same. It gave me the inspiration to be more creative when I write.
PC: A venue on your bucket list to perform at?
Camryn: Madison Square Garden
PC: A must-have on the road?
Camryn: My pillow
