Exclusive Interview: Asher Angel Shares the Story Behind “thinkin bout me,” His Most Personal Music Yet, and a Potential Tour

From Disney breakout to superhero on the big screen, Asher Angel has spent more than a decade growing up in the spotlight—each chapter of his career revealing new layers of his artistry. But 2025 signals his most personal chapter to date. With the release of “thinkin about me,” Asher steps fully into his own voice, ushering in a bold, soul-baring era of music that’s as vulnerable as it is self-assured. It’s a reinvention that feels both intimate and expansive—an invitation into the most honest version of himself. Pop Culturalist caught up with Asher to chat about the inspiration behind the single, what fans can expect from the upcoming album, and the possibility of taking this new chapter on the road.

PC: This new collection of songs is the most vulnerable you’ve ever been in your craft, and that comes through in every track. Why do you think country music is the perfect genre to express everything you’ve been through and the right vessel for these stories?
Asher: Country music is the best outlet for expressing personal experiences and emotions because of its strong storytelling component. I can write about my struggles and triumphs in a way that feels genuine and relatable. That authenticity comes through, and I hope it resonates with listeners and creates a deeper connection.

PC: While this new chapter finds you embracing your country roots, it still carries a pop sensibility. How did you find the balance between the two?
Asher: I’m exploring new sounds that resonate with me. I’m not necessarily searching for a balance—I’m focused on sharing parts of my life in a way that feels authentic to me and hopefully connects with the people listening. It’s about shared life experiences.

PC: “thinkin about me” is the second song off your upcoming album, and it contrasts “alternate ending” so wonderfully, really showing a great glimpse of what’s to come. What inspired the track, and how did you know it was the right next song to release?
Asher: “thinkin bout me” is really important to me. I wanted to create something more personal and introspective after “alternate ending.” That time for reflection was crucial—it allowed me to dive deep into my experiences and emotions. I wanted to share those through my artistry, and this song felt like the perfect way to do that. Plus, the contrast between the two tracks highlights the different emotions I’m exploring on the album.

PC: You’re finally making the music you truly want to. Of your upcoming singles, which one do you feel best represents who you are as an artist, and why?
Asher: I think “thinkin bout me” best represents who I am as an artist so far. It captures my journey and the personal growth I’ve gone through. The lyrics reflect my more introspective side, and I really wanted to share my raw emotions and experiences through this song. It feels like a true reflection of my artistry, and I hope listeners connect with it on a deeper, more meaningful level.

PC: With this being such a personal project, is there a favorite lyric you’ve written for it?
Asher: I think the reason I connect with these songs so deeply is because they reflect me embracing my past while still looking ahead to the future. It all feels so real and relatable to me, and I love that there’s still this underlying sense of hopefulness throughout.

PC: You’ve hinted that an album is in the works—can fans expect to see you on the road later this year? And if so, what can they look forward to from an Asher Angel show?
Asher: I can’t wait to connect with all my fans and bring people together through music. The shows are going to be so much fun! Especially in today’s world, I think it’s more important than ever to spread love and positivity. I truly believe music has the power to unite us and create unforgettable moments we can all share.
