Album Review: The Chainsmokers’ Memories…Do Not Open

The Chainsmokers

Listen, say what you will about The Chainsmokers but there’s no denying that they know what appeals to a mainstream audience and what will do well on the charts. They’re hitmakers, no ifs, ands, or buts about it.

Back in 2014, their breakout single, “#Selfie”, turned the relatively unknown duo into global superstars. Some would even say they became an overnight sensation (And we’d be one of them). Their rise to fame includes several Top Ten hits, a GRAMMY award, and a three-year residency in Las Vegas. Hard to believe that their debut album just dropped last Friday, right?

Memories…Do Not Open finds the band sticking to what they do best. They aren’t reinventing the wheel. But with all the success they’ve had, can you blame them? What’s that saying? “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” The twelve-track album is hit after hit. And it’s everything we’ve come to know and expect from the pair. The beats and melodies remain catchy AF and Drew Taggart shows off more of his vocal prowess. Is he a Sam Smith or Adele? No. But he isn’t taking part in the vocal Olympics.

Memories…Do Not Open is a solid first outing for the pair. If you’re a fan of The Chainsmokers, you’re in for a treat. And if you’re not, it’ll be pretty hard not to bob along with the music.

Memories...Do Not Open
