Forest Whitaker began The Whitaker Peace & Development Initiative in order to facilitate peacebuilding and reconciliation in areas of war, violence, and conflict. Pop Culturalist was lucky enough to join the benefit concert, Performers4Peace, featuring several bright faces from across Broadway. Emceed by James Monroe Iglehart and Julie James, the evening featured performances by Derrick Baskin, Daniel Breaker, ChoclattJared, Bryan Terrell Clark, Patrice Covington, Mara Davi, Alysha Deslorieux, Matt Gould, Griffin Matthews, Carly Hughes, Marcus Paul James, Mykal Kilgore, Lesli Margherita, Constantine Maroulis, Jill Paice, Catherine Ricafort, Brandon Uranowitz, and The Broadway Dreams Choir.

With so many wonderful performers raising their voices up for peace, the words Forest Whitaker shared that evening echo: “You have the ability to make amazing change…the ability to do things with simple things like love and kindness.”

Taraneh

Taraneh has been happily living in NYC for over a decade, but originally hails from the Midwest. Enamored with books at a young age, she grew up making stories, playing make believe, and loving the musical and performing arts. She is great at binge-watching TV shows. Some current favorites: Schitt's Creek, A Court of Mist & Fury, Prince Harry, and The Magicians.
