Exclusive Interview: Pop Culturalist Chats with Mitch Rossell

Mitch Rossell

Mitch Rossell is bridging the gap between country music’s rootsy past and modern-day rock and roll. He’s created a sound that’s uniquely his own, and it’s taken country music by storm. Pop Culturalist had the pleasure of speaking with Mitch about his new single “Ran Into You”.

PC: How did you discover your passion for music?
Mitch: I discovered it pretty late. It was right as I was about to go to college. I decided to pick up a guitar the summer before. I had no intention of doing anything with it. But my dad had always wanted me to play guitar, so the idea had always been there. One day, I was like, “Let me pick this up for him.” It also gave me something to do in my dorm room. It turned into a love affair. I absolutely fell in love with the guitar. I could not put it down. I was obsessed.

PC: You’ve had a lot of success throughout your career. When you look back, is there a particular moment that stands out?
Mitch: The biggest thing has probably been having a number one song that I wrote by myself. That’s been a highlight so far.

PC: Tell us about “Ran Into You” and the inspiration behind the song.
Mitch: The inspiration behind the song was my wife. I was a runner. I had a hard time committing. It just takes the right person. That’s what the song is about. It’s very real for me.

PC: You’ve been releasing music throughout the years. If you had to pick one song that best encompasses who you are as an artist, which would it be and why?
Mitch: What a question! I don’t know if I can answer that. There are so many for so many different reasons. If I have to pick one, I’ll go with “Raised by the Radio.” I don’t know if it encompasses all that I am, but it talks about my influences and all the songs that influenced me.
