Blake Shelton’s “Minimum Wage” Rocks the Country Genre

Before the bright lights and multi-platinum albums, The Voice judge, Blake Shelton was working his way to the top in the country scene. The crooner reminisces on the hardships he went through to make it to stardom with relatable lyrics and a catchy rock-infused sound.

“Yeah, I met you ‘fore anybody knew my name / Playin’ for pennies on the dive bar stage / split an all-star special on our first date in a Waffle House booth / Your daddy was cryin’ when he gave you away / ‘Cause all those country songs I played / They didn’t come with a 401k, But hey, I had you,” Shelton sings in the first verse of the upcoming new song.

“Girl, your love can make a man feel rich on minimum wage,” Shelton sings on the chorus.

Shelton surprised fans with the new single after performing the song during the NBC New Year’s Eve special. He shared that the music video was directed by soon-to-be brother-in-law, Todd Stefani.
