Younger Recap 2.5: Boy Toy
Liza wakes up in Josh’s bed to the news that Caitlin has started following Josh’s band on Instagram. Liza is not having it. Using the excuse that her daughter is tramautized by the divorce, she convinces Josh it’s a bad idea. She also convinces Caitlin that she should unfollow Josh (then, finally, Caitlin admits Josh is super hot. I was waiting for the weird daughter-could-be-dating-him thing to raise it’s head).
At work, Liza, Kelsey, and Diana are faced with the incredibly ridiculous, spoiled, young author, Jade. Why it was necessary for a fake orgasm scene by Jade, I don’t know. Kelsey has not seen any draft pages from Jade (which she is trying to keep on the dl) so she arranges to meet with her later to get some. Jade does not show up. Lauren discovers that Jade has been blowing all her advance money (on things like gold burgers, python boots, and parties). With the help of Lauren, Kelsey goes to confront Jade at the Gramercy Park Hotel. Surprise, surprise, there is no book. Jade was playing her all along. How is Kelsey going to get out of this little predicament?
Liza attends Josh’s band’s show, and, lo and behold, runs into one of her Jersey friends, Tom and Michelle. The middle-aged couple has a daughter that is friends with Caitlin; they found out about the show from Instagram, of course. This scene is pretty fantastic mainly because Josh is so into meeting the couple and learning more about Liza’s life–so much so, in fact, that Josh immediately agrees to going to Jersey for dinner with them.
At dinner in Jersey, Liza’s confronted by Michelle. Michelle points out that despite Liza thinking what she has with Josh is real, Josh is just a boy toy. Michelle says, “You’re acting like a girl who met a boy, but you’re not. You’re a middle-aged divorcee who needs validation that she’s still got it.”. This pushes Liza to eat all of Josh’s pot lollypop that he brought along. After the dinner, Josh pushes Liza to talk about what happened. Josh is so mature and solid in this scene (minus the “maybe we should just get married and start having kids” line) that it actually makes me a little anxious about what is coming down the pipeline this season for their relationship because this amazingness can’t last…
Highlights:
Liza (to Michelle about meeting Josh): “You know how these things happen.”
Michelle: “No I don’t. I really don’t.”
Maggie: “Your life is not a board game. It’s a spider web.”
Liza: “But I should be ok, right? I’m the spider.”
Maggie: “I think you’re also the fly.”
“She obviously doesn’t know what truffle butter is.” Josh, neither did I! Don’t google it.
“I don’t know what our future holds, but I know that I don’t want to bail on this….so, can we keep going?” Josh is the sweetest!
